It's ignorance how you want Latino Immigrants out when your parents were once immigrants. Also if all illegal immigrants would be deported then would you work for 6.75 and hour under the hot sun picking stawberries do you think americans would like to the horrible jobs that illegal immigrants do for low wages. I do agree with you about more people than just those of Hispanice origin being here illegally. Each and every one of them should be made to go home.

One of the reasons the focus has been on Hispanic illegal immigration is because it is so easy for people from Mexico to come here illegally. People from other nations have a lot more hurdles when trying to get here illegally. Therefore, the vast majority of illegal people here are Hispanic. That's just statistics. Illegal is illegal. It doesn't matter what race, creed, or color. To equate racism with wanting to stem the influx of illegal immigrants is ignorant. Why don't you do your own research on the cost of illegal immigration to the American taxpayers every year? The average household in L.A. has about $2000 in extra taxes each year just to support the illegal immigration troubles. I don't know about you, but $2000 is a lot to me.

I think one of the problems for people accepting latino immigrants-legal or illegal is that they don't want to assimilate like all of the other immigrants that have come to this country. Too many want this country to change for them i.e., spanish is now on everything because the latinos evidently can't or won't speak English like everyone else. I also think this is one of the main problems for African-Americans too. They insist on having their own dialect because they don't want to assimilate. Then they wonder why they experience prejudice. Even Tavis Smiley on NPR has said he would never stop talking "black" because he would be a traitor or something. Amazing, if my immigrant grandparents had refused to assimilate as quick as they did, I doubt they or their children would have made it here either.
 

Leticia, like Mexico, wars were fought and borders decided by these wars. Mexico lost, the border was drawn. The fact that you claim 5000 years of Latino history means absolutely nothing. Groups like La Raza and LULAC continue to feed propaganda to undermine the AMERICAN way of life. Countries like Lebanon allowed people to stream into their country and call themselves Hezbollah, then they try to destroy it from inside. If you think that AMERICANS, and I mean Hispanic, Black, White or whatever nationality are going to allow this ILLEGAL Invasion of of our country, think again! Bottom line is you need to first be an AMERICAN and become part of the solution not part of the problem or you may just have to learn to speak a middle eastern language. My name is Ben. Just wanted to leave you guys with a my perspective on things. Do you all really think that a eight foot wall is going to stop someone from coming into this country?? Building a fence on the border will only be a quick fix that is ultimately going to cost alot of money to the taxpayers, and the influx of "illegal" immigrants will still be the same. The reason people are coming into this country is because of the economic status in their own countries. Thats not our problem right?? Wrong. It is our problem. Foreign Policy,..since the MOnroe Doctrine... We have chosen to be the "protectors" of Latin America, but it is through the World Bank, the maquiladors and other policies that some coutries have been devastated. Although the damage is indirect, its still there.

One more thing, America is the salad bowl. Everyone...(immigrants) that has stepped on American soil has brought its culture along with them. They choose not to let it go. You have the carrots, the cucumbers, the tomaotes, the croutons, and they are all mixed in, but you could still tell them apart. This is what makes American great. That is why US has doesnt' have such huge soccer fans. Everyone roots for their mother lands team. Well guys. have a good day.
 

The reason that spanish is everywhere is because it is the most widely used language on the planet. More people speak spanish than any other language. Just like the other person wrote a few posts back, if you are not native american indian then you have no right to talk about immigration. Your ancestors were immigrants too. For God's sake, this country was founded on immigration.

Everyone is missing the real reason for why Americans are against illegal amnesty. It is not racial hatred. That's just a scam meant to create more hatred so that the real reason doesn't come to light.

It boils down to less American jobs, salaries that haven't increased since the Nixon years, decreased work benefits, rising prices (gas, education, healthcare, food and housing). The American middle class is hard-pressed these days to take care of their families. In fact the American middle-class is decreasing in number. More families are now poor.

Actually American workers and Hispanic workers (illegal and legal) have a common enemy. Both Americans and Hispanics are being exploited by Big Business.

Illegals come to the US and are forced to take up jobs that don't pay a fair wage or have any benefits. They can't speak up and demand justice because they are here illegally.

Americans are losing their jobs to illegals who uncut them wage-wise. Meat packers earned $19.00 an hour in the 1980s. Now meat packers get $9.00 an hour. Americans are forced to look for other jobs in order to maintain their standard of living.

Do Americans have a right to maintain their standard of living. Yes they do. Why? Because all of their ancestors came here with nothing and worked at horrible jobs in order to see that the next generation would be better off.

My father was a day laborer; my mother was a maid. They were low-skilled workers who worked long and hard so that our family could get an education and better jobs. They paid their dues...just like the ancestors of all Americans.

I've heard many people state..."would Americans work in 100 degree temperatures for minimum wage?" Well, I'm old. I remember the time when Americans (all racial & ethnic groups) did this. Kids in my neighborhood would earn money cutting grass and shoveling snow. Now, they have been replaced by illegals. Kids and adults used to do construction work during our HOT summer months...willingly because years ago because they were "paid construction wages (lot higher than minimum wage at that time). High School students worked in the grocery stores--now replaced by illegals who work without benefits.

I don't know if anyone else sees the pattern here. But, Business is replacing Americans (either with illegals or by outsourcing jobs to India and China) and putting downward pressure on their salaries & benefits.

BUT BUSINESS IS DUMPING THE COSTS FOR ALL THE ILLEGALS on to the American worker. Although some illegals pay taxes, the costs for all their social services far outweighs anything they put into the system. Current estimates indicate that each US citizen pays $11,000 for each illegal in this country. And, as I wrote...American families are being squeezed by Business and rising costs.

Now, the so-called legislators in Washington are hyping comprehensive immigration bills. Politicians in Washington don't care one bit about Hispanics or Americans. These bills have been created in order to bring in millions of more low-skilled workers from Latin America.

Why? Is there a labor shortage in the US. Answer: NO. What will happen if the Senate, the Democrats have their way. Hispanic Americans will suffer the most. We will be forced to compete in the job market with waves of new immigrants. The new immigrants will be exploited at first. When they realize this fact, they will demand a fair wage & benefits. But, the next wave of newbies will come in and the oldies will be fired--or forced to accept lower wages.

If Business has its way--the US will ultimately become a third world nation with two classes...the rich and the poor.

Yes, we need to revise immigration. We are a nation of immigrants. But, immigration must depend upon actual need. Importing more people than there are jobs for them--only makes the rich richer.

So, beware of the hypocrites in Washington. They get their campaign monies from Business. Their first and only loyalty is to Business. They are not helping Hispanics...they are helping themselves.

And to the person talking about 'I remember back in the day when little kids used to work in the sun'...not to be disrespectful but that was, like you said,"back then", not "NOW"!! And about adults working in the HOT sun during the summer months for construction because the wages were higher.....
1) The wages were higher so that's why they worked back then...construction wages are kinda low now (and they are sort of lazy during this century);
2)high school students are in more fast-food restaurants, so maybe that's why you don't see them that much in grocery stores;
3)Kids don't work that much in the fields because there are not much fields to work in and they have to go to school;
4)Those students who you say are being "replaced" by illegals are too busy with cocaine, Glocks, and skipping school!

So as you can see, there IS a labor shortage because eligible workers are not working...for various reasons....and if you want to get your "HOT" jobs back, tell the big corporations first!!
 

It truly saddens me to see just how many people don't understand how our country is in peril of non-existence! To think of how many men and women have died to give us our amazing freedoms and our way of life, and to have our own citizens now wanting us to abandon those freedoms!

I believe The original post was correct. His parents were not illegals, so read the posts before you bad mouth him. He understands the totality of what will happen if we do not gain control of our borders. Immigration is fine when it is LEGAL!

What you folks that are bad mouthing him don't understand is, the illegals are not coming here to become Americans and assimulate to our culture. All of us still have our families cultures we may practice, but we are not trying to make everyone else live by our culture. We have accepted the American values and still have our heritages! My family LEGALLY immigrated to the US from Croatia. My great-grandparents were very proud to become citizens in 1944. They spoke very little english but did all they could to learn while working sweat jobs. They were very poor by American standards and yet they (in their minds) were wealthy because of their living conditions in Croatia. They busted their butts to come to America LEGALLY and became PROUD US CITIZENS. They did not demand that they be spoken to in their natural language, they did not demand that their heritage be recognized by the rest of America! They were ecstatic to be able to give their children a better life. That is the difference!

Have you ever thought about the people that are doing everything LEGALLY to enter this country for a better life? Is it fair to them that the LAW BREAKERS
 

It greatly saddens me to see so many Americans just not getting how much danger we are in of losing America as we know it! It saddens me that in a country with as much freedom and way of life as ours that we have so many people that are un-patriotic!

My great-grandparents came here in 1942 LEGALLY and became Citizens of the US in 1944 from Croatia! My great-grandfather was so proud to be a citizen he joined the military to protect this country!!!! They spoke very little english but learned. They worked in sweat-shop style jobs so don't go spouting how hard the ILLEGALS have it. If they came here LEGALLY they wouldn't have that problem now would they?

The difference is, when my great-grandparents came here they assimilated to the US customs. We still have our heritage customs, but we, unlike the ILLEGALS, did not try to make America change to suit our customs!

Yes it takes time, why do you believe everyone has to have instant gratification?

Lets be honest, how long are you going to support ILLEGAL immigration when that terrorist strolls over our borders with a dirty bomb or worse, a nuke, and kills you and your children. I commend you "Latino" for your bravery and patriotism. I am equally sorry for those latinos who continue to think that this is a race issue. It shows their lack of knowledge. The reason people are offended more by mexicans than any other illegal group is strictly demographics. It wouldn't matter if it were another anglo country below us, we would still feel the same. Illegal is Illegal. I have worked in the fields. I have picked plums, harvested tomatoes and detassled corn. This is how we used to make money for school clothes. As a matter of fact, we lost these jobs to illegals in my junior year. What I don't understand is all the protesting for rights that you don't qualify for. Why aren't you prostesting and fighting for your rights in your homeland. Aztlan does not exist. You were sold out then and you are being sold out now. We (Americans) are not screwing you over. Your country is doing that. Are you too ignorant to see that?

They are not needed, I agree with the other guy on this, I told my 29yr if working in the fields was good enough for my great-granparents, grandparents, parents and me, what makes him SO GOOD not to do the same, all these LAZY ASS Welfare and others need to know that to get a check they need to work for it...Buy the way, we are also the onlky country that will let others purchase our lands and do what illegals do, if AMERICANS even tried it )even in Mexico guess were we would be!! SO keep you illegal immagrants in there own country, at least till they want to do things THE AMERICAN WAY! by the way for all those that think just because a person is light skinned blue-eye means they are "WEDO OR WEDA", I AM both of these, but am a CHICANA, but knows what it is like to be called the above...So Leticia, read up on your HISTORY before you tell someone else...
 

Guess what folks, stop and think, in the first place, yes we all have ancestors that came here as immagrants, BUT then we didn't have the LAWS that we have now...SO what happened then was then, what is now is now, for one times have changed, there was not threat to this nation at the time, People need to see why this is SUCH a big issue, remember 9/11,,,apparently not...when people out there want to let illegals break the laws, (try breaking those same laws in their countrys)...Nobdoy says we do not want versity in the US we are saying do it LEGALLY, respect this NATION as you would want us to RESPECT YOURS!!!
