Will Amnesty Bill Trump State Immigration Laws?

By Steve Elliott, President
Grassfire.org

The real impact of illegal immigration is not felt in Washington, D.C. It is felt in the states -- the cities and towns across the nation being forced to foot the bill for the runaway costs and local impact of illegal immigration.

That’s why it should be no surprise that, with the Senate and the President pushing through an irresponsible blanket amnesty plan, our state legislatures are taking matters into their own hands. As USA Today and others are reporting, 30 states have passed legislation this year to crack down on illegal immigration to see if your state is taking action. (see USA Today link below).

State laws with teeth

These laws are wide-ranging -- from cracking down on employers hiring illegals to requiring state contractors to ensure that their employees are legal. There are laws against human trafficking, requiring citizenship or legal status to receive health benefits, making English the official language, establishing fines for counterfeiting documents, and more. One law in Texas has real economic teeth -- it prohibits businesses from deducting as a business expense wages paid to illegals.

In all, some 57 laws have been passed in these states, with more pending. I believe if left to our own devices, “we the people” would eventually solve this illegal immigration crisis. The 57 laws are evidence of that.  Just one problem....

Senate Amnesty Bill Will Trump Your State

If the Senate amnesty bill passes, virtually all illegals  will quickly migrate to some form of legal status, and ultimately the “path to citizenship” that the President is touting. Which brings us to one of the most damaging possible consequences of a federal amnesty bill -- what happens to the state efforts to control illegal immigration.

Once an illegal is granted legal status, how can state laws against illegals apply? It is clear that these laws will not apply to the 12-20 million who get legal status, or the tens of millions more who will be coming to our nation under the Senate amnesty plan.

Hidden danger of Senate amnesty plan

This is one of the least advertised dangers of the Senate amnesty bill. Yes, the very idea of granting amnesty to millions of illegals is repugnant. Yes, our porous borders are a national security threat. Yes, many communities are literally being torn apart by the influx of illegals. Yes, our hospitals and schools are being stretched to the breaking point.

As if these factors were not bad enough, our fearless leaders in the nation’s capital are trying to trump everything we can do at the state level and totally federalize another issue. Undoubtedly, this outrageous amnesty plan will concentrate more power at the federal level. Further emasculate our state and local governments and ultimately result in more taxes and spending at the federal level. Just to make the problem worse.

Once again, Washington, D.C., is on the wrong side of an issue, totally out of touch with what most Americans want. If the situation were reversed and 30 states had passed bills supporting amnesty, you can bet that the pressure would have already forced the House to cave in to the Senate amnesty plan. The President and some in the Senate are out of touch. But unless we stand strong, their amnesty plan will trump our state-level efforts to control this crisis.

I hope that I am not violating a rule about the use of this link with what I have on my mind. First off I really would enjoy meeting with Steve in Houston but my S.S. income budget just prevents me traveling due to high cost of fuel. I am certain that the event will be great and look forward to Steve's report on the activities. Heard a blurp on the radio today that Eisenhower, while president, took the bull by the horns in the late 50's to curb illegal immigration. The short report I heard stated that he defied opposition in Congress and dispatched some 1,000 to borders to contain and aprehend illegals. The effort was highly successful and illegal crossing dropped som 95% during the next couple of years. One thing really caught my ear: Illegals caught were transported by bus some 500 miles into the interior of Mexico for release. I suppose many laws have gome into focus since then that ties the hands of current president. Ike had a handle on the situation and acted with true concern of the U.S. population. Keep up the good work, Steve. I support you by forwarding e-mails to friends, financially when I can and always in my prayers. God bless You! Orville Ramsey

When are we going to stop calling those fools in Washington DC leaders and start calling them the rulers that they are? They do not lead..they rule...they create our rules...and the rules are the way THEY say...not what we, the people, say or want. Maybe ruler is also inappropriate. Maybe they should be called dictators...or, perhaps, remove the tators and the remaining is what they truly are.

My husband has been in construction for 35 years. He does one of those jobs that supposedly "no one else will do." We watch our own children, wash our own clothes and mow our own yard.
The invasion of illegals into his field over the last few years has done nothing but keep him at the poverty level as far as pay! This is not right!
Not only that, but he has to correct their mistakes and keep them from defecating and urinating into elevator shafts of multi-million dollar homes. They do not want to learn the trade and become skilled laborers. They just take the money and move on to another employer before it is discovered that they do not have a legal Social Security number.I have news for all these rich people on their big homes-they are shoddily constructed at best. And that smell is coming from your dumb waiters and elevator shafts.
They get free medical care while my husband is facing a medical crisis, cannot afford basic hospital insurance and needs knee replacement surgery.
Until recently, it was just an irritation. When illegals took to the streets waving Mexican flags, that was the breaking point for my husband and I. How dare they! Our tax dollars have supported them and their families and send millions of dollars back to Mexico - tax free.
And how dare the Mexican President threaten us, if we put the National Guard at our border. They cannot take care of their own people!
I have Hispanic/American friends that are outraged over the language issue also. English should be the national language.
I truly feel sorry for the Mexican people as a whole. Mexico is a horrid country if you are not one of the elite. However, we cannot support them any longer. We can barely support ourselves.
And do not get me started on the new laws that are trying to be passed! They are not enforcing the ones we already have!!!!!!! I support George Bush, except on this issue, I think he is going soft.

Steve, the work you are doing is great. I am against this amnesty bill and I am against anyone not becoming a legal citizen, paying taxes, speaking English and doing as they say "when in Rome, do as the Romans do". I am utterly appauled at the new situation where OUR government not only has dipped into our SS, but now, want to give the hard working American legal citizens SS to these illegals. What's with that? That has to be stopped. It's so bad now that our kids and grandkids will be lucky IF they ever see it. What can we do to make these so called elected "Government Representatives" of ours listen to it's constituents. Hispanics have a strong lobby. We are suppose to have our Government to work for the people, not against the people. I'm concerned as to where this all is going to end up.

The proposed Senate Amnesty Bill is yet another shining example of the desire of liberalistic ethos to impose damaging legislation upon our nation. A nation that now consists of a majority of, I don't want to get involved citizens. Those that would misinform along with those that are misguided are seeking to lead the totally uninformed. The senate and the president are chasing the wrong issues on "Illegal Immigration". We are dealing with federal felons. Those that have knowingly and intentionally violated U.S. law ! Amnesty is another form of a proven loser. Appeasement. Prosecute, fine, jail and deport. Follow the Immigration laws the were enacted a scant ten years ago! We do not need immigration reform. We simply need enforcement of adequate existing laws.It is time congress is informed that cudos are given for good legislative practices and laws. Not for quantity as they currently believe. This issue has already had a major negative impact upon the resources of our great nation. Let us not act to make it worse. Amnesty, nay!

I don't totally agree with Alex Jones on everything. I don't worship him. As a matter of fact, I think he's probably really part of a govt psyop or PR scheme, (for reasons too complex to get into here), but he has to put out SOME good and shocking info to be credible. He and his guest, retired DEA agent Cele Castillo explained the facts:
These drug dealers work for the govt and the CIA. Drugs entering America is an industry as big or bigger than Walmart. How do you hide that? You don't. You get protection. The rival drug dealers who aren't part of the govt cartel get hit.

Almost no one knows this, but long after Gary Webb was chased out of journalism and ridiculed for his articles and book Dark Alliance on CIA and Cocaine during the Contra campaign, the Inspector General of the CIA quietly admitted what he said was true. It turns out rather than overshooting, Webb was undershooting, too cautious. It was bigger and more proven than he had imagined. But now Webb's dead. He shot himself in the head. Twice.

Hi to all,
I read your comments and you are all very emotional when it comes to illegal immigration. All other issues are well presented with true facts and logic. But when it comes to illegal immigration you loose your cool. Yes, it needs to be under control but when you get emotional and try to link illegal immigration to: 1-terrorism; 2-husband not getting ahead in life; 3-affecting quality of life, etc. etc. There is where you loose your credibility and seriousness on the matter. 1-terrorism comes from Middel East not Mexico; 2-Your husband needs to put more effort in his job so he can get ahead (this is USA, for crying out loud) you get what you work for-don't blame others for your failures and lack of vision in life), also you will then consider all the USA companies that take their business somewhere else for cheaper labor, if it is about the blaming game, let's blame them too; 3-Illegal immigrants did not built the pop culture neither starting glamorizing porno, illegal immigration did not make USA a bad mouth and did not built your projects, did not invented welfare (latin countries don't have that), quality of life? Take a trip in your own downtown. And pleeeeeease think before you talk (write).

Oh, and I suggest you learn how to use proper English and learn how to spell.

You don't want "immigrants" to think that's the right way to speak.

see you real soon.

regarding the message to ICE
Body: Ice,

He is one of the reasons we are here, this country can't function with uneducated rednecks who can't even spell their own language what can one expect when they try to go work on a machine 12 hours a day for minimum wage, and as we can see he speaks without even researching the details, illegal immigrants without a valid social security do not benefit from welfare or tax returns on the contraire uncle Sam keeps the taxes that illegals can't claim. If it wasn't for illegals this country wouldn't be so successful and rednecks would not have the choice of collecting link, daycare, medical cards, tanf, liheap, etc... Rednecks would have to be forced to work for their money just like we do so fuck them racist redneck mother fuckers

I don't think it takes a wizard to see that our elected officials have blatantly decided to throw us American citizens to the wolves and defy our collective outrage over the illegal immigration fiasco. Every important public opinion poll has shown that the vast majority of Americans oppose this wretched immigration bill, and yet, the liberal media ignores this fact and downplays our fury. No politician will admit that we, the tax-paying citizens of the United States, overwhelmingly oppose any form of amnesty. Our demands for arrests and deportations in accordance with American Law are ignored and defied on a daily basis. We are treated as though we have no voice in this issue whatsoever. We are handed lame rationalizations for this impending broad-based amnesty program, and labeled racists for our beliefs that it is wrong for our country. What a tragic shame that our elected officials have chosen this path, as it will destroy our national sovereignty, and comprimise our national security for some time to come...

THe Amnesty bill won't matter if G.W. declares a national emergency.
I don't know if you are aware that on May 9,2007 Bush signed a presidential order NSPD 51, HSPD 20. Those directives bypass congress and allows him to become dictator if he declares a state of emergency. This to me seems even more urgent than the immigration isssue, because if those directives are allowed to stand he can take over as dictator with a stroke of a pen.
They are/or were on the White House press page. The story was broke by Jerome Corsi on World Net Daily.

If you notice the person who disagrees with controlling immigration on this page is Ana Gonzales. HINT. The other is hiding behind some name iceman or something like that. If you read Ana comments she cant even type english. Bottom line is Ana, they or you are called illegals because its illegal. My gradfather, uncles, and father fought wars and paid taxes to build up this country. Yours didnt. You have alot of complaints about America on your comments. GO HOME.Another thing is the unsecured border down south does have alot to do with terrorism thats already been proven. These are just some comments from what people like Ana would call a redneck. Yes i am from Arkansas, I own a gun, I vote republican and I am LEGAL.

to all that believe illegal immigration is o.k. let me remind you of all those throughout history that fought and died for legal u.s. citizenship. let me remind you of why you no longer live in mexico, "you have a lower standard of living there, you do not enjoy the priviledges there that you do here, you do not have the opportunity to advance your station in life there like you do here, and the list could continue. if you are a legal u.s. citizen then i will tell you that i fought and am disabled so that you can have the freedom to say all the stupid things you want to say, if you are here illegally you dont have the right to say anything.
