I don't think I have ever felt so let down and depressed after an election as well as terrified about
our border security and the possibility of another attack. If another attack happens within the next two years, and it could, Pres Bush will get full blame, not the Dems and their dirty politics. I am very disappointed that our Republican representatives keep turning the other cheek and tolerate the trash talking media and Left wing radicals. We some how need to take a strong stand, now and going forward and make our representatives understand that they need to start standing up for the things we believe in. Our traditions, our language, out pledge to our flag, our Christian base.
 

Well, Americans--when those of you that turned coat for the Dems start getting upset at the things that they will be pushing, remember how you voted......Americans shot themselves in the foot! It won't matter who is Predident with that lineup in Washington now.....I think the hard work of those of us who see the bigger picture was wasted on deaf ears and we are in for one heck of a liberal ride...fasten your seatbelts! Thank God He is ultimately in control however......what happened to standing firm for what we were founded for and getting the job done!?
 

We can count on CNN'S Lou Dobbs to keep the imigration issue in the news. We will keep on fighting until we get the border secured and laws past.
 

I am ashamed of the turn in Americans who know better; to the dark side: no strength, no honor, no understanding of the big picture! All the liberal things that are going to be facing us now: the push to remove God from everything, acceptance of gays which are an abomination to civil society, illegals will just take over now since Dems want to get their votes even though they don't speak Enlish, break the law and will change the way Americans heritage turns out.! But then they don't care cause they are well off enough not to have to deal with them down here where the rest of us live...it goes on and one...the troops who have lost buddies and limbs fighting for you..YOU who betray them with your 'lets run and tuck tail!' No one wants war but if America's freedom is not worth fighting for now just wait until the next phase explodes, then you deserve what you get!!!!! But not the rest of us who believe in America, who we are and what we stand for!!!! There needs to be a huge change in ALL the government...reread the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence! Maybe that would be a good place to begin again to re-build a decent America! It is time to unite and stop the liberal crap, if we don't, it won't be a question of what party, it will be a question of wheather we have a nation to even call our own any more...remember YOU did this!
 

No President is perfect, since when is anyone? There are always things that are not accepted in each campaign, however, WE ARE AMERICA, united and if we do not overcome the split that is dividing us we will be fighting each other as in the Civil War!! How about that for a wonderful way to solve things? I would rather see us fight the evil and enemy somewhere else than in our own country!! What on earth are people thinking to be so wishy- washy and weak? Where would we be if that were the case in Vietnam and WWII....now it will take the draft and MANY more will die for the foolishness of thinking!!! What denial of facts! It is not an easy war and it is far from over...just wait and see what happens to our country! It is not going to be good! God help us all, we're going to need it!

What is president Bush thinking about? He claims to be a Christian ,If he reads his Bible it tells him that there will never be peace in Iraq. All those Billions spent, should have been spent in protecting our country from illegals that want our children on drugs,It is other countries that will attack us from within after they get here illegal. Here is the president we have all stood up for and probably happily voted for about to sign away our national borders and ultimately our national identity.

I am disgusted the first thing that comes out of the mouth of Bush is the Amnesty!! This is very upsetting. He will get it now that he has the Democrats on his side. Bush is really a Democrat is he is not a Conservative at all. He is a very weak man who has no backbone or sense of reality on what this massive Amnesty will cause. Look at the history of Lebanon and you will get the picture on what will happen here. Read a book called 'Because they Hate' and you will understand.

I pray for a nation that did not trust in the power of prayer before going to the polls. We had better pray hard now...right now, and continuously every day. Watching my country die a slow death is sickening. You're spinning your wheels by even giving a damn. This country is on a fast sled to hell and there's no stopping it. Want me to tell you want's coming?:

The US is going to continue to be overrun with aliens. The same thing happened to the Roman Empire and other great civilizations and we know what happened there.

The US is going to continue to lose political clout and influence in the world. The US will become a global laughingstock.
The European Union is the next world superpower and it ain't going to be pretty.

The war in Iraq is going to be for naught. Iran is going to take control of Iraq. Take that to the bank. Thousands of lives and billions of dollars all for nothing. All because Bush had a personal vendetta for Saddam Hussein.

The country is going to continue to morally decay. Gay marriage, pedophilia, late-term abortion. It's a pit of vipers and you ain't seen nothing yet.

There are not going to be anymore leaders of substance. The Roosevelts, Kennedy's, Churchills are long gone.

This country has turned it's back on God and given him the finger. It's day of reckoning is slowly approaching. When I hear "God Bless America" I become ill. "God Bless Sodom and Gomorrah" is more appropriate. God loathes hypocrisy.

In the not-too-distant future, Asian banks are going to lose faith in the dollar and start dumping them. A catastrophic economic collapse is coming, brought on by many factors.

I could go on and on. The point is this country is dying. I know what's coming and it's only going to get worse. I am past caring because all I can do is gnash my teeth with helpless disgust. What I think means less than nothing.

Edmund Burke said "All needs to be done for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing". I once believed that. It's no more than a trite cliche now.

I feel like President Bush was pleased with the Democrats winning. I think he is elated about amnesty for illegals. I have lost my trust in President Bush. He seems to be a globalist. The true security of the USA lies at the southern border. Our nation is being invaded and AMERICAN citizens are being shafted.
 

Grassfire should look into and report on the North American Union being proposed by the private Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). The Vice-Chairman of CFR is none other that Robert Rubin, Bill Clinton's Secretary of the Treasury. Board member include Madeline Albright, Tom Brokaw and various powerful Fortune 500 CEOs.

The North American Union proposal would for North America nations' abolish borders, establish a common currency similar to the Euro, blur the line between citizens and illegal aliens and establish an Inter-Parliamentary Group with power over our elected members of Congress.

Doesn't President Bush's comprehensive immigration plan fit right in with the North American Union plan? Of course it does.
 

There is no need to fear the election results, can we not all agree that the "new" Dems are far more conservative than the "old" Dems? I am a conservative at heart, I call for action, unlike any we have seen, these are our employees, they work for us, no matter what passes in the next 2 years, we, as one must stand to question whatever changes, it is our constitutional right. There needs to be more people like Mr Elliot, stand up, do not complain to your friends, go to Washington,state your feelings, another one of our rights. The Dems I know are happy about the election, however, they are scared of what it means on this subject. Unity is what is all about, not just the grassroots people, but all of us, I pray, a third party will appear out of all of this, one of Unity, one of strong self worth, one that empowers all of us, one that will stand up and be proud of the USA. The far right and left, will die a quick death, I am wishing, the middle, without compromise, will do as the people wish, do as the people see. You may see this as impossible, it is not, that thinking causes the quagmire we are in now, it destroys what we have helped to build. Abortion needs to leave the political scene, it is a war neither side can win, because people feel differently is no need to push it, NO ONE can push thier will on another, nor can they judge, Jesus taught us that, the fates will be decided by Him, let Him do so. On a more National base, the immigration issue is serious, I have proposed for years that we, the USA, take a more "walk softly, carry a big stick" policy than we have, look to the core, the people here, what we have to say, we have never been truly heard, even here, with Steve's valiant efforts. It's time to lose our European roots, time to focus on the USA, and what our homegrown people have to offer, we can do it, we really can. Let us become arrogant, all of us, split the heart of the left and right, and come together. Each of us, with our party affiliations and beleifs,DROP THEM, let's get back to us, the USA, the land of freedom, the land of what God meant, we can show the world this, we've been able to for years, instead, we choose partisan politics and hard right or left holdings, let them go, and follow what we are meant to be, a Nation of equality, of Unity, let us stand together and take down politics as usual, something we all forget, our differences make us all the same.
 

I do not agree that Illegal Immigration is the most important issue at stake. I am voting based on the abortion issue, which I think is the greatest evil plaguing America today. I will vote Pro-life; the Amnesty bill is of subordinate importance. Certainly an influx of Catholic, hard-working Hispanics is better for our culturally bankrupt nation than the continuance of the horrible crime of mass infanticide.

Even the atrocities of Carthage pale in comparison to the carnage cause today, and I believe that it will not be long before another Scipio to meat out justice.
 

As I watched the results come in Tuesday night, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach. I see in the near future the last remenants of the America we know and love being sold down the river (or across the river, in this case) to lawbreakers who don't respect our borders, language or culture. We hard-working, taxpaying, English speaking citizens who have made this country great will be quickly thrown aside in the Democrats efforts to appease Third World aliens, and our liberal Repub pres who wants to exploit cheap labor for his weathy business cronies. The scary part of this equation that seems to be forgotten by both sides are all the enemies of this country who regularly exploit our porous border. How many more 9/11's do we have to endure as a country before we see real immigration reform? I fear by the time it is realized that real reform is needed, it will be too late.

Let's Say I Break into Your House

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in ages!! It explains things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests.

Let's say, I break into your house. Let's say, that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors; I've done all the things you don't like to do. I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters, not only must you let me stay, you must add me to your family's insurance plan, educate my kids, and provide other benefits to me and to my family (my husband will do your yard work because he too is hard-working & honest, except for that breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be there. It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself. I'm hard working and honest, um, except for, well, you know.

And what a deal it is for me!! I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being accused of selfishness, prejudice, and being an anti-housebreaker. Oh yeah, and I want you to learn my language so you can communicate with me.

I believe all this is leading up to the tribulation. God puts every leader into place. We cannot change his plans but perhaps we can postpone it if we all cry out to God in repentance, and if we ask our president to rethink this, and the law he signed, making every person in our land receive the "real ID card" by the year 2008.
 

I am thrilled at the way the election turned out! Yeah Democrates! The repblicans have been making asses of all americans for too long! The war we should nver have strated. However I am strongly against any ammensty for illegal immagrats. We just have to let our new democrates know that we strongly appose that issue. Democrates started Socila Security and so many other good things, not the repbulicans. The demorcrates will do the right thing about the illegals. We know they have done so much good for our country in the past! Democrtaes are for the middle class, low income and affordable health care. The rebplicans have had there rules and do gooders for the rich only much too long. It was past time for a change from the rich repbulicans loving and helping only the other rich! I hope Hilary Clinton is our next president! Bush has been nothing but a liar and an ass and I for one am sick of his smirk ( he thinks is a grin). Put handcuffs on that fool Bush and lets get him out there. the economy will then get back in good shape for all working class people. The mexicans should be shipped home and on this I stand frim. We will see great changes now, especially when we get a democrate president in office too and we will!!!!! You mark my word. The congressional Republicans got what they deserved by "supporting" this moron, aka "El Presidente Jorge Boosh." It's just too bad we don't have a parliamentary form of government; then Boosh would have been defeated in his own district, or at least been relegated to a "back-bencher" by a new government. Now, we have the worst of both worlds - a Democratic House, and Boosh, the globalist, in the White House. I say "God help us" - even though I'm agnostic!
 

First I believe the President is happy to have like minded people in charge of the House so he may pass his beloved BLANKET AMNESTY bill for ILLEGALS. I hope he remembers turning on his own voters while the House is impeaching him.

I would like to thank the past House of Representatives for their stance on ILLEGALS and Border Security!!!! I was happy to hear one member’s statement concerning the fact that the ILLEGALS should stay home "because they are so hard working" and help build there own country instead of draining the resources our country.

Remember when the President was comparing apples to oranges at the Donut Shop in the D.C. area and maybe intentionally attempting to mislead the ILLEGAL Immigration fight. Hopefully the President was not praising the owners thinking they were illegals, I assume he had confirmed that they were legal. The concern is not “legal” immigration it is “illegal” immigration. The President must be desperate to attempt such tactics to hoodwink the American Citizens. I hope the House continues to stand up for Americans and Secure our borders and fight for interior enforcement of our immigration laws.

I hope the House will continue to stand up against the Senate and President for the American citizens. Maybe even a few more senators will discover a backbone and support you in this battle. However, I am afraid the Chamber of Commerce and other special interests control most of the senate.

Please let the President know that many of us who voted twice for him as President, also in my case two times for governor, are disappointed in his stance for BLANKET AMNESTY for the ILLEGALS, no matter how amnesty is defined by the President. The President has endorsed the Senate's position of “BLANKET AMNESTY” for ILLEGALS not the House's border security first position. I understand why the Chamber of Commerce, Business interests, and the few others whose bottom line is directly increased are supporting the ILLEGALS. These special interests do not have to furnish benefits to ILLEGALS. Their benefits are paid for by taxes via the ever increasing cost of health care, the suffocating of our education system, and any other social or public works program that have their expenditures enlarged so the few can have their bottom line increased. He seems to be more worried about the rights of the ILLEGALS and the Chamber of Commerce instead of the rights of everyday citizens.

How in good conscience can he and the Congress send our young men and women half way around the world in harms way for the defense of our country and refuse to defend our national borders?

I have never before had one issue that determined my voting position, but ILLEGALS invading my country with the consent of my government and its elected leaders have galvanized my support for any politician who is brave enough to protect our borders and support interior enforcement of our immigration laws.

No new bill would be better than the Senate's Blanket Amnesty bill. If nothing else the existing immigration laws should be enforced.
 

It's no wonder the Republicans lost the House and Senate. I am changing my political affiliation to Independent for the 08 election inhopes of getting a candidate who will do what is best for America and not for big business.
 

Hmmm. I'm a professional Spanish interpreter ... next time you have coffee with Bush or the House democrats, ask them how they feels about LEPROSY, CHANGAS disease, Antibiotic resistant TUBERCULOSIS, rampant STD's, etc.

First thing we need to press, is for the gov't to interpret the 14th amendment as intended, with juridiction and residency, not sneak over the border and you pop out a U.S. citizen.
 

I just wish I knew what happened to the President's faith a while back. He knows the Bible and I do believe he was living his faith. Was it when the Methodist Church Bishops called for not giving any money to Israel and give it to the Palistinians and Bush had to chose somewhere in there to keep his wife or lead like the Lord wanted him to? Was it his Episcopal mother (they now believe Jesus is not the only way for salvation) along with his wife? President Bush, what happened to your faith and your love for the Lord? It was what this nation needed. Of course Satan hated you, me and the rest who want to keep God's hand over this country. Oh how thrilled we were to see you bow your head in prayer when you first became president. Then was it beneath your dignity to bow to the King of Kings? I pray everyday for you. As others have noted with disgust, I voted for Bush both times and am appalled that he could come out and state that "now maybe we can get something done on the amnesty"! Spoken like the RINO that he must be! He and many others in Republican office have no backbone at all. Think back at past Presidents; most had more backbone than to allow all the constant attacks against his integrity to go on without a murmur, except when asked he said "that's politics". We are in big trouble, but we can't stop fighting! God help us all.

Blaming President Bush for all the ills in our country is getting quite boring. The election results is not President Bush's fault! The American people have only themselves to blame. They are the ones who went into that booth and voted for: Amnesty for illegals; Abortion; Higher taxes; Socialized medicine; Abandoning Iraq; More terrorist attacks in America; Homosexual marriages; Separation of Church and State; Raising the minimum wage (which brings inflation with it); patterning America after Europe; Abandoning Israel; Paving the way for a Democrat President in 2008, and a whole lot more!

We have only ourselves to blame. Voters professing to be Christian, voting in the party whose platform God says is an abomination to him. God says you cannot serve two masters. You cannot be a Christian and a supporter and member of a humanistic, liberal Party. The two cannot be reconciled!!

The results of this election tells me there are fewer true Christians
in this Country who actually practice their Christianity, and who are politically informed.

I also listened to several commentators hailing the number of "young" voters participating in this election. Given the prevailing liberal agenda being taught in our institutions of higher learning, is it any wonder the Democrats won the House and Senate? Because our children are not getting a solid Christian up-bringing in their homes, is it any wonder they become brain-washed when they go away to college? This liberal education is being perpetuated from generation to future generation, and is apparently having an impact upon our political system. Just look at what the message of hate has done for the generations in the Middle East. What a contrast to the teachings of Christ we recently observed within the Amish Community.

No folks, President Bush is not responsible for the disasterous results in our elections. WE ARE!
And God will give America exactly what she deserves. The Church is waxing cold, and prophecy is being fulfilled. The people are calling good evil and evil good. The count-down has begun. God raises one man up and puts another down to fulfill His purposes.
 

I am very saddened by the recent turnout of this election. I attended a political rally fri. night--heard our godly attorney general make an impassioned speech about rapists getting off scott free while the pregnant 13-year old gets an abortion at the Abortion Capital of The World, Wichita, KS. And I feel ashamed to have this "nice" city named that. Our beloved attorney general Kline lost, plus the Dem. governor kept her seat, and a liberal will replace Kline as attorney general! Result? Those three liberals will help each other! Who is this third person? Why, none other that George Tiller himself. (I will not call him a doctor)--he has paid blood money to help elect these liberals who in turn will help him. The fact that he does late term abortions, not to mention any other type, sickens me! I am deeply saddened and am just waiting to witness the toboggan slide our once great nation will soon experience. Bush is a globalist and he does not mind if and when we turn into the North American Union. So we can fight for our rights and send faxes and emails and keep trying, but prophecy seems to want to be fulfilled right now. But as my mother (and Churchill)said, Never, never give up!! So I will keep trying. God bless America!!
 

seriously, there is no need for any discussion on this issue. illegal is just that, illegal! round them all up, confiscate everything they have to pay for the all the privlages they have illegaly taken advantage of and dump them back where they came from. then send Vicente Fox the bill for their transport. by the way, if they were swedish super models I'd say the same thing. arizona just anounced that english is the official language there. can you believe that? they actually had to vote on that, it wasn't obvious what the official language was?
 

You want to turn our government back to the people? Stop paying your taxes! How much of your tax dollar supports you and how much of it supports the demise of America? Through our taxes, we are financing our own death. Everyone in politics is rich, they have to be to campaign for office. Take away our tax dollars and you'll find out how much they believe in what they are trying to sell us......how much of their own wealth are they willing to spend on programs that they are investing our tax dollar in?
 

OK, instead of griping about all this. Let's start thinking of ways to solve the problem.
The illegals did their boycott, now it's time for us to do ours. Start phoning any business that advertises in any language other than English and tell them that because of that, you and your friends are not going to use their services or buy their product anymore. When you are at a restaurant and suspect that the waiter/waitress is an illegal, DO NOT TIP THEM! If you hear them speak another language other than English, DO NOT TIP THEM! DO NOT HIRE THEM to do your lawns or anything else. Either do the work yourself or find an American citizen to do the work. ADVERTISE in the newspaper for an ENGLISH-SPEAKING CITIZEN to do the work. If you're not sure if they're a citizen, assume they are NOT! It's time to stop being politically correct! It's killing our country! If you are going to have a business come out to your place to do some kind of work, tell them that if they send anyone out that even APPEARS to be an illegal, you will not pay them or use their services.
Make things miserable for them so that they will give up and go home!
The next step is to stop them from voting. There should be a law passed that says if they are caught voting illegally, they will NEVER BE ELIGIBLE to become a US citizen.

I think we are treading in dangerous waters. To grant amnesty to people here illegally sets very scary precident. Illegals from all over the world will see that it is as easy as getting here, screaming that you want citizenship because you are already here, protest a little, and our Government will cave in. Look, I think it is deplorable the conditions that the people of Latino countries have to endure. I also think that they should take initiative to retake their countries from their corrupt leaders. To come here, ILLIGALLY, says something about the people that make that choice. If it is ok to ignore our legal soverignty for their personal gain, then how about stealing for personal gain. Is that ok too? This arguement that our economy couldn't live without illegal immigrants is ridiculous. If you calculate all the crime(deportation costs, jail/prison housing, id theft, personal loss by the victim, etc.)and the strain on our social services, I bet you would find that it offsets quite a bit. For businesses that use illegal labor because they couldn't afford to operate otherwise... You don't deserve to be in business! If I don't have the startup capital for my next business venture should everybody be ok with me robbing a bank for the funds? I think not. I think it sad that, as a whole, our country has been so morally and reasonably eroded. We are one of the youngest countries on the globe, but I think we will reach our social demise before so many others. Too bad. We as a nation have lost our will to do what is right for America. Everybody is afraid if being labeled, and that's sad. I prey for my boys' future, I'll prey for your children too.
 

Larry is right. We have to mobilize and fight back. Quit going to the local carwash and wash your own car! Teens need to be taught a work ethic. Put away their Ipod and stop playing video games. We all used to have cleaning and gardening jobs and paper routes when we were kids. Now this work is done by illegals. We are all to blame for being lazy!

Well I think its about time that we as American's start standing up and quit letting the government smoothe over issues like immigration. Instead of illegals demonstrating in the streets, I think we as Americans should take to the streets. The hell with government using other bills to get their agenda spread out. It doesnt matter ,that we're lied to all the time, huh!. Well, If Steve would organize demonstrations for the American people ,maybe we would get our point accross. These people in government are going to wait until millions get killed with one of the terrorist attacks that come across the Mexican border before they take a real stand on these illegals.Believe me , If people don't think that these large terrorist groups cant convince,with money, large amounts of money, anyone of these illegals that are so desperately in need of it ,to take a small package and deliver it to a specific place,they are sadly mistaken.
 

Passing an amnesty bill is a deal breaker for me. The inevitable result will be the creation of millions of more "victims" for the Democratic voter plantation. Our taxes will go up. Our electoral process will be even more contaminated with the votes of non-citizens. Productive American-born tax payers will be come nothing but economic slaves who are expected to support a massive increase in entitlement programs. The results of the election are horrific. I wonder if anyone else remembers this: During the Southeast Asian conflict the definition of "ally" was in serious question. We kept seeing the same guys coming at us in the night as were standing beside us in the day. We couldn't tell the difference because they looked the same. Are we ready for a "Viet Nam style war" in the streets of Los Angeles and Houston? With amnesty immenent for 12-20 million illegal aliens, most of whom are openly antagonistic if not categorically hostile to America and most things American, how are "we" going to determine who is with us and who's against us? If these PARDONED illegal aliens get it together enough to take it to the streets, will some of our major southwester cities come to resemble Saigon in 1974? Heaven help us! Mid Term Elections
I am a 46-year-old Hispanic Conservative Republican and know the Border issue played a big roll in everything the Republican Party failed us they just couldn’t get it right we put these people in office and they did nothing but cave to the Dems. These republicans were in name only and we paid a major price for it. so let’s go back to the drawing board it’s never to late.
First yes I am very disappointed but not so much with the election outcome, I am reminded of a time when I invested so much time and effort into something only to have to scrap it at the end, having to start all over from scratch reminded me at every step just what went wrong so that the same mistakes would not be repeated.
Sometimes things happen for reasons we can’t understand or accept at first only to have it cloudy and distorted, then once you step back it becomes crystal clear. Here’s my point the Republican Party is 1 of 2 alternatives we as Conservatives have that best suit or represent our vision and issues. We gave specific individuals our vote that elected them to represent us, unfortunately when the time came for them to do just that they literally failed its no surprise we lost the House and the Senate, hell I saw the flames from a distance. They had every opportunity to redeem themselves when it came to the Border Issue or getting Confirmations thru but lets get back to the issue at hand total granted with the likes of Democrat obstructionist certain things like a Republican control backbone could have proved the difference from the alternative disappointments and letdown not acting on issues is the charge but the bottom line is they did act. America as we know it will not exist in 20 years. We will be a 3rd world country with many squabbling minorities. Each out for themselves. WHEN bush pushes amnesty through (and he will, make no mistake) with the help of the dem congress, we will not only legalize 20M-30M, we will also set ourselves up for a chain migration unlike we have ever witnessed. That 20M will become 80M-100M in 2 decades. Add that to the current 1M+ legal immigrants annually, the unlimited guest workers with their anchor babies (they will never be temporary), and the next big wave of illegal immigration to fill the cheap labor jobs the guest workers will not take, and we are staring at a population increase unprecedented in history. And the population increase will come from 3rd world countries with different culture and values than Americans. Our culture will be minimalized under the weight of multiculturalism. And once the 3rd worlders can vote, they will always vote for more wealth redistribution. After all, the lazy gringos do not deserve to have more than the newcomers. Immigration will NEVER be stopped as there will not be enough of us to overcome their voting block. Immigration will be a free for all. Conservative parties will become the fringe. The dems know this, and for the life of me I can not understand why bush does not understand that the conservative parties will not get the majority of hispanic vote. He is not only committing national suicide, but conservative suicide as well.

Once amnesty passed it can NEVER be undone. There is no do-over on this issue. It is not like tax cuts or foreign policy. Those can be changed with the next congress or president. But amnesty is not reversible, which is why it was so crucial to get "attrtion" polices and enforcement enacted while the repubs (assumed conservative but proved otherwise) were the majority. But they blew it and the American public does not understand what they just did b y elevting dems. Now we will get an immigration policy that we must live with as long as the country lasts. It is utter cultural suicide to western values in America.

I an saddened about this, but I am no longer patriotic. I will simply take all I can while I can. I will not ask my son to fight for this country, like my father and grand father did. It is no longer a nation, it is a tradking block for sale to the highest bidder. All of my decisions will be based on what is best for me and my family from now on. Not the country. I have done everything I could to wake this country up to the perils of mass immigration, illegal immgiraiton, and PC. I have been to rally's, border vigils, and donated to the many organizations fighting this mess. To no avail. Americans need an empty belly and some hard times to wake up to what is important. The homeland and culture!!! All else is secondary. Good luck to all but think seriously about plans to get out of america if amensty passes. If you don't beleive me, look at the qulity of life and environment in over corwded countries like China and India. It is not pretty.

I think it has all been said above. What a great disappointment this election has been. I wonder what is the I.Q. of the voting public. It looks pretty low to me. What happened in AZ? The State goes Democrat yet votes for English as our language. Go figure!!

Even though I'm retired I just don't have the time to read your write up which is too long. Many years ago I learned that any letter that is more than one page long is more often than not put into file 13 or in the read later file.

Well...it's obvious that Karl Rove is not the genius some thought he was. I just wonder if there is anyone in the administration who has sense enough to understand that it was not the war that beat the Republicans and it wasn't the Democrats either. The Republicans beat themselves by not securing the borders and Bush led the charge.
 

To me all this came about at the wrong time. I think that with all the people we lost on 9/11 the president would be thinking the opposite, and want to get rid of all illegal immigants. The border patrol should be able to do what they have to in order to protect our country. President Bush forget amnisty for illegal immigrants!
 

Our Ill's have been coming for a long time. And it is the Christians that have failed. We complain about all sorts of problems and wonder what is going on. But where we have failed the most is in prayer. If the people of God would pray and be led by the Holy Spirit our nation would not be in this situation. Have you read the bio on Nancy Pelosi.....fascinating. Let's all remember she's third away from the presidency. She's absolutely gung ho for abortion, including partial birth abortion. I think she and any others who approve of abortion and especially partial birth abortion should be required to spend one week at the side of the abortionist...I don't think most people understand what abortion really looks like. I was especially sickened by Ms. Pelosi's comment that "we Americans CHERISH our right to abort"....please.....who are these people she appears to be quoting?

There are many "moderates" who are against amnesty. But the dems overwhelmingly supported every amensty proposal thrown out there. So when dems won the congress, bush won his amnesty. And yes, the repubs needed a good slap in the face. But it cam at the wrong time. Amensty is a 1 time shot. if passed, it can not be reversed. I also agree that abortion, gay rights, and all this other BS is secondary (I could care less about those issues) to immigration issues. I am just glad to see that more than repukes oppose amensty. Not everyone posting here is a "Far right wing" proponent. This from a soon to be former republican, switching to independent. I have had it.
 

Yes I was bummed too, But we worked hard on Local campaigns. Though we lost, we will move forward and with everyones resolve we will turn this tide in our countrys favor once again. We did not win our first rounds during the revolution, we lost the first few rounds during the civil war and world war II dealt us some serious blows before we took the battle to the gates and I see this as no different. Our predecessors persevered and we will too!

One of the most disturbing things occurring in the past few years, is the complete lack of civility, common courtesy, class, or concern for the president and others in national office. During WWII this would almost have been treason. It's despicable. No one seems to be concerned about what's really best for the country, itself. Everything is about "me", "party",
"the war's lasting too long", or
"I don't have ___". Wars don't last two or three weeks. Had these people been in power during WWII we would have lost the war because they would not have been able to sacrifice new cars, sugar, gas, tires,candy, butter, nylons, etc. Our air raid drills would have damaged their psyche! Likewise today, the lack of immigration reform, concern for our troops and the catastrophic disaster to result from an early withdrawal from Iraq, will condemn the U.S. because our of failure to keep our promises to protect people. Who then, will trust the U.S. enough to help us when we need it? Broken agreements do not allies make!

As those who have thought through this logically know, the only real answer to illegal immigration is to dry up the MAGNETS that draws them here. If we eliminate the jobs, the welfare, the anchor babies, and just plain make it uncomfortable to live here illegally, they will stop coming as word gets around. The added benefit is it causes "ATTRITION" of illegals currently here over a nubmer of years. If they can not make a living they will go home. So eliminating the magnets reduces pressure on the border from illegals and takes care of those already here illegally. In the process, saving taxpayers B$'s simply trying to secure the border. In other wrods, it is eaxctly oppostie of bush's guest worker plan.
 

I am a registered Republican who voted for those who were against illegal immigration. That just happened to mean I voted for Republicans on Nov 7th. I am not happy with how ALL of our politicians have handled illegal immigration, but when we lost the House to Democrats, it dealt a fatal blow to any hope that we can stop amnesty now. People need to become informed before they vote. Currently, they just vote whatever way the media influences them to vote and now we will all pay the price for the ignorant knee-jerk voting.

In addition, there were many rumors that Democrats registered illegal aliens to vote. I think we need to verify the validity of many voters before January.

I am prepared to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to protect our Constitution and our country from invasion by aliens.

I am thoroughly disgusted with President Bush and the Republicans who refused to stay faithful to their Conservative base. So many of the things that they promised in the previous election just fell by the way side. They were too jelly-bellied to stand up to the Liberals and implement the things in which they so-called believed. Also one can see the glee with which President Bush plans to pursue his heart's desire to legalize illegals by way of Amnesty. As far as I'm concerned if he does this, he should be impeached. No one would listen. 85% of this country was bloodthirsty for the Iraq war while blind to the fact that we have been being destroyed from within for decades, much of it by our own politicians on both sides. It's all the New World Order plan in action, and the Iraq occupation was part of it. So is the merging of first world and third world countries through massive immigration and job outsourcing.

This is my second post, I have to apologize for that. The thoughts that run around religion in here are astonishing, Abortion is not a political issue, it will never be solved on that platform, God gave NO ONE the right to judge, nor did Jesus. This issue is HIS call, we the people, can not decide it, if we choose to try, in the ways I have seen, we are murderers in our own right. I do not agree with it myself, but I choose the way of God and His Son, I will not judge, for I am not one that has the power to do so, neither is ANYBODY else! I was imprisoned by the Catholic religon for years, I escaped, I ask all of you to "escape". The Church, in it's own right, seems to be the hand of salvation.............from the outside. I emplore all of you to look inside, and the politics you witnessed Tuesday, will pale in comparison to what you see "inside" the Church. I have very strong beleifs, rooted in Catholicism, my beleif in God has never wavered, my beleif in the Church slowly crumbled, to see what they have stolen from our souls. They impose God's law when they haven't an interest in what happens to you or me, just put your bit in the collection plate, and everything is hunky dory. If you choose to continue with your hypnotic love for what the Church stands for, so be it, it is your choice (not judging, notice that!)I feel the apocalypse will not find you in a pretty place.
Now, on the question of immigration, amnesty is not an answer, deportation is. I will not judge the illegals, they strive for a better life and have received one under our current situation. We started off as a country fed by immigrants, but, we all had to pay the price, become a citizen, and learn the laws of the land. I have to ask, what happened to those "laws" of the land? I am proposing, not only here in Raleigh, but, every where, create a day of protest, for Americans, "The no Illegals served day". I agree with all of the above. President Bush has betrayed those of us who voted for him, and so did the Republicans who have not done what we elected them to do. That would be to protect this nation from our enemies and actually work for the LEGAL citizens of this country. It has been said that every government has its good and its bad, which I feel is true; however, this government has become unbalanced where there is more bad than good -- humans and rats are the only animals that kill their own kind...will this ever change? And, is it really necessary to go through so much devastation in order to create a global society? "Life is not so mathematically idiotic as to assume that the big always eat the small; for it happens just as often that the fly kills the lion, or at least drives it mad." Oh, if only this were a nightmare.

I think it is criminal to give illegals amnesty. Why is it acceptable and legal to dog men who have made valiant attempts to pay child support, and charge them thousands of dollars in interest on arrears, but illegals can sneak into our country and get welfare?
 

What is happening to our country is criminal. How can we teach our American children to respect the law when our own govenment allows illegals to break the law. Not work! Sell drugs to our children! Go on welfare! get social security! and when they are caught; they are let go right back into our back yards.

I have said for a long time that the war in Iraq has been a diversion from what is really going on in our Country. The Powers that be could care less about a few American lives I think at last count a little over 2000 we lost over 50000 in Vietnam. While the majority of Americans were worrying about our young men and women in Iraq, President bush and his globalist cronies were busy pushing the North American Union. To the rich and powerful this election was a godsend now they'll get the open borders that they've been craving and the every day American will have lost their country. George Bush has managed to pull the wool over the majority with his dumb country boy from Texas act. He will go down in History as the worst president ever.(As if it makes any differenc). I voted for the B-----d twice, as I was fooled along with Millions of others.

My 13 y.o. grand-daughter, was brutally, savagely, held prisoner, beat, raped, sodomized by 2 illegal men. Now a year later, a spanish lawyer that one of them could afford,has gotten the charges dropped to "3rd. degree,Felony g",and it is still on-going inthe Wisconsin Court system. He was smart enough to wear a condom. No DNA, no rape as far as the Law system goes, even though the medical reports verify that everything she claimed happenned DID, he as an illegal, was able to be bonded out and is walking the streets!! Even his patner, who was unlucky enough to have to get a State Attorney appointed ( at whose cost?!)and didn't bother with a condom, so there was DNA on Him, got 1 charge of 2nd degree sexual abuse to a child, -Felony C.,currently in prison, admitted in Court that his cohort DID indeed rape her, ect.,it means nothing legally, without the DNA. Guard your Daughters and wives!! They do not hold the female gendre in any thing close to high, or even moderate degree. If they hadn;t been here illegally, my Grand-daughter's life and mind.and body would not have been smashed and mutilated.This is only one facet, of many, that will have to be addressed with the "reward of amnesty being granted to illegals. As I read some of the blogs posted here, I am reminded why some Republicans took such a hit in this past election.

Calling ourselves "Christians" and dissing all Democrats in such a "Holier than thou" fashion, is just hateful and serves no purpose.

What is gained by spewing such venom ? We loose credibility and we loose our ability to deal with the issue at hand; STOPPING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

I am an Independent and I have been supporting Grassfire's excellent work in their efforts to quell Illegal Immigration from day one. People from both parties, from all walks of life, all ages, genders and religious beliefs, want to stop illegal immigration. Alienating those people does not serve our purpose.

So let's stop with the hate speech already. Aren't you all sick and tired of it ? Instead we can pool our resources and get this job done!

It will be harder than ever now that we have a Democratic Congress and Senate. But first things first, we need to find out which Congressmen/woman or Senator will support our cause or which could be swayed, then go from there.

I, for one, am not going to waste my energy diminishing anyone that doesn't agree with everything I stand for. I feel pretty certain that Christ would do the same.

The amount of rage over illegal immigration is huge! Why are we not putting this energy into a march on DC that would rival any illegal immigrant march?

Now that the Democrats hold our country's fate as it relates to this issue, we have got to send a clear message. WE DO NOT SUPPORT AMNESTY OR "COMPREHENSIVE...." WE INSIST THAT ENGLISH BE THE UNITED STATES' OFFICIAL LANGUAGE, WE WILL NO LONGER PAY, OUT OF OUR TAX DOLLARS, FOR EDUCATING ILLIGAL IMMIGRANTS, WE WILL NO LONGER PAY FOR THEIR EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS, OR FOR ILLEGAL'S WELFARE, to name a few.
In all of my years (pushing 50) I have never seen this country so fired up! Eighty percent of the country feels the same way, so what is the problem? Why don't we march?
Look, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expect different results. We've written, called, faxed and forwarded (which we should continue to do). The one thing we haven't done, is MARCHED !!!! Let's do it!!

Let's organize through all the "Grassfire Like" websites. 500,000 here, 700,000 there....not to mention all the folks we can pick up through Lou Dobbs' website.

We are very angry, but we must march and we must insist that we hold ourselves to the highest of standards when we do. There would be no point in it, if we acted in a way that would disgrace our country.

I just finished a really nice comment about how I felt our country is "going to hell in a hand basket" with the illegal alien issue,as well as no respect for the wishes of the American people. However, after previewing my comments and trying to fix some spelling errors, I lost EVERYTHING that I had typed up. uuuggghhhh!!!!
Basically, I think that any illegal alien should be rounded up and taken back to their own respective countries, or at least one that is close by. I'm sick and tired of America acting as "the police for the entire world". I think that other countries are tired of us sticking our nose where it doesn't belong too.If other people are fighting in their countries, let them fight. We need to secure our borders and keep the legalized American people safe from anyone who may want to harm us (and we all know that America has made alot of enemies over the years). If other countries are offended because we want to keep our country safe, so be it. Trade should be fair. If other countries don't want to play fairly by the rules, then we will find another country to fill that need, or WOW, here's a concept... We could actually make goods such as clothing, shoes, cars, computers etc... HERE in the United States by legalized Americans just like in the good ol' days. Americans would have jobs,and small business would prosper. It's just an idea of course, but who knows, it may actually work. And if our leaders in Washington don't get there act together, then we can fire them and replace them with someone who will do our bidding. The politicians would turn over a new leaf if they were placed on social security like we are, and actually had to pay for a commercial airplain ticket and sit in 2nd class seating with the rest of us. Humility goes along way, and I don't see anything wrong with people tasting a little bit of it every now and then. It helps to keep people honest in my opinion. No more special interests, or borrowing money from other countries. If we don't have the money to do something then it doesn't get done.. at least not right away. And when are we leagal Americans going to protest in the streets against the illegal alien invasion?? Since when did the Mexican people think that the are entitled to ANY American services? Perhaps if they stayed in their own countries they could help to make it a better place. Just another concept! I hope to God that something changes soon, because us legal Americans are being sold out by our own government. Sickening, isn't it?? Only God can help us now!
 

The issue of illegal immigration is the most important issue of our time, trumping terrorism, social security deficits, health care concerns, the environment and just about everything else. Why? Because illegal immigration affects each and every one of those issues negatively. The magnitude of the problem is enormous. Will this country be worth fighting for in the future if the entire social, economic, and cultural fabric is ripped to shreds? I'm not sure. But I am sure that the consequences of ignoring the will of the vast majority of Americans will be devastating.

I am a Christian, and dammed proud of it, however, I do realize the floor in Washington is not the place to bring these things, it divides and seperates! I am very disapointed with the democrats taking over. I think our country is sold out. I know our Lord and Savior is displeased with what's happening in this country. Wish people would wake up, but I'm afraid it's too late. With the flood of illegals over here getting food stamps, health care, schooling and all the other benefits at our expense it's breaking our government.

A common language is a unifier. Every country has one. Speaking the native language of a new country shows respect for its citizens and for its culture. Why would anyone resist learning and speaking the common language of a newly adopted country?

Can you imagine what would happen if Americans by the millions invaded Mexico, refused to learn Spanish, and pressured the government to accommodate their language and culture in everyday life?

Resentment, for starters, then the establishment of a separate nation of people within the borders. That's not a sought-after goal.

Celebrate your culture but don't push it on the natives. Assimilate!
 

As far as I am concerned, President Bush and anyone who is with him on amnesty is derelict in duty. We have immigration laws that ARE NOT being enforced. There should be no debates about it. Enforce the LAW !
 

As a small group were demonstrating outside a store locally about allowing immigration (read amnesty for illegal aliens), a protester confronted some who said no way when approached & told them they too were immigrants & "they" should go back where they came from.
One of the confronted responded with, "I was born here, my parents were born here, their parents were born here, & their parenst were born here, and so on. I AM a native. I DO belong here. This IS MY country. If I go back anywhere, it will be to the home I own & will defend if you try to push your way in! Get it!" And off he & his party walked.

It might be time for those of us that are unhappy about being ignored by our elected officials on issues, such as Amnesty, to realize we are going to have to unite in a way that will give our voices more volume. We are also going to have to become better educated about how our representatives are actually voting on issues of importance to us. I personally do not care who is Democrat or who is Republican. I care about knowing who is for me (supports my opinion) and who is against me (opposes my opinion, or is misrepresenting how they will actually vote) One way we could demand more serious attention might be to join the Independent American Party. I have been brousing their web site, and found they have links to organizations that are monitoring reporting and scoring the votes of our Congressmen and Senators. We can look for ourselves and become more aware of who is who, and make better educated decisions on how to align our votes. It is obvious that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are listening to our individual voices. They are paying lip service to our petitions, but in the end they are patronizing us to get our vote then ignoring our viewpoints. It may do service to our cause to combine our voices so as to motivate candidates to take our viewpoints serious. As members of the Independant party we are demonstrating that we are not pleased with either party, and that they are going to have to take our vote serious to gain election, because we are no longer going to simply sign a petition, and then forget the issue, or vote the party line, but we are going to pursue the issue with our votes. At some point in the future it may become actually possible to elect candidates of our own, but for the present a strong voting block can make it or break it for some politicians with our elections being as close as they are today. A good third party working with orginizations such as Grassfire that are working to provide information to the voters could be a strong information tool and make all of us better voters. Politicians align with political parties for the power and support they provide. As a large comitted group of voters we can gain some power ofer their future perspective, and votes.
 

If you really want to know what is wrong with America just read many of the comments above. The real issue in our country is STUPIDITY, LAZINESS, and GULLIBILITY on the part of the voters. We could be using this communication tool to share knowledge, and learn from each other. Instead there is every manner of name calling, and biased view points that can be imagined. This is America, the land of free speech. It is ok for each of us to talk. It would be nice if more would talk with some thought, consideration and a minimum of intellegence. Many of you are repeating the same lies that you have been fed by the party and the media instead of thinking for yourselves, or of your neighbors viewpoint.
It is ok for us to require immigrants coming to this country to speak our language. (When in Rome do as the Romans do.) Otherwise WHY GO TO ROME?? It is also ok for us to want to control immigration, and to want anyone who is ignoring our laws to be returned to their own country. It is ok for us to want to secure our borders against those who would threaten us or try to undermine our values. We have more than ONE-MILLION LEGAL IMMIGRANTS entering our country each year who are unafraid of telling us that they are here, and who they are, who want to be AMERICANS enough to learn our language. Instead of sitting here talking like uneducated fools we could be trying to understand why BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES have failed to concern themselves with this issue, and others, even thought the majority of the citizens who elected them are of the opinion that our country should be SOVERIGN and SECURE. What ever happened to MAJORITY RULE?

How many well meaning, uninformed PRO-LIFE voters do you think took him for his word, and voted for him just because of party?
We, better learn how to become better informed voters and start thinking for ourselves. The majority of the American Voters want pretty much the same thing;

IMMIGRATION: secure borders legal immigrants only,
but we can not prevail on the issues because we are to busy being party loyal, and arguing issues that we do not even know the truth on. Until we forsake that stupidity we can not vote decisively on any issue, and the politicians will continue to ignore us. It is time to stop the IGNORANCE. Start educating ourselves about how our elected officials are really voting and let them know we are not going to be lied to anymore. Both political parties have allowed the illegal immigration to continue. Do you know why they have the same position on that issue? Tell me, but show me facts to support your information. It is obvious the parties have a mutual interest on this issue, and I feel that it is not in our best interest. Tell my what their motive is or help me find out what it is. Can we discuss this problem together? Can we join together as AMERICANS stop beint Democrats or Republicans and correct this problem? If we can not we are doomed to waste out time and our breath.

How about having a little faith in the American public? Regardless of how many times you deny it,voters were turned off by the harsh immigration rhetoric spewed by several of those Republicans that lost in the recent election. I'm going to pretend that the vile comments against immigration are truely made in defense of our country and not driven by racist hate and respectfully disagree with those who claim Mexicans refuse to learn English and assimilate. Nothing could be further from the truth. I know this for a fact because I'm one, and I know countless other Mexican and Mexican-Americans, and I've never heard anyone say they don't want to speak the language or be part of the American culture. Speaking English clearly gives you an advantage in this country. To refuse to learn English is self-defeating. I know people, mostly older folks, who don't speak English, but it's not because they don't want to or haven't devoted considerable time trying. Learning a new language is extremely challenging and takes time. And just like the Italians and Irish before us who gradually lost their native tongue, the new wave of immigrants, also will (unfortunately) lose their ability to speak Spanish. Studies have shown that by the time the third generation rolls around, not only is English their primary language, it is often their only language. All I'm asking is for patience. We all assimilate - sometimes it just takes a few years.

The two suspects came down the building on the back side, next to an alley. Stephanie, Delozier, Bonn and one other cop waited with guns drawn. They ordered the suspects to freeze, hands up. One suspect appeared jittery, barely raised his hands to waist level while jabbering in Spanish to his cohort. According to Stephanie, Delozier, and the other officer, Mendez made a move like he might break for it. Stephanie released the dog who then bit the man on the leg.

Personally I believe unless we take some drastic measures, it's just to late to change anything. We've become an immoral society, porn, child abuse, drugs, sexual overtones in every aspect of our everyday lives, abortion,greed etc. Wake up America and get a grip on the old idea of family values, honesty and God, or nothing will ever change. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has become a threat to the safety and economy of this country.
This is the same organization that has been successful in stopping the Pledge of Allegiance in our schools, ending Christmas displays on public property, and other things that we Americans hold dear.
They do these things when one person complains, but don't take into account the feelings of everyone else.
Now, they have sided with the illegal immigrants who are populating our towns and cities while causing economic chaos and a sharp rise in crime.
In Hazleton, Pennsylvania, the ACLU sent many lawyers to protect the "rights" of illegals who are draining the city of money and causing other problems.
Los Angeles is in economic ruin because of illegals.
Many other places are feeling the awful impact of this problem.
Yet, the ACLU sides with those who break the law by being here and causing what soon will be a national emergency.
The ACLU does not understand that these illegals do not have the same rights as those who are here by legal means.
Now while I believe that every person in this country has rights, I want you the reader, to think about the following:
The United States has seen a sharp rise in crime in many areas because of illegal immigrants.
These crimes include, murder, rape, robbery, and identity theft.
Yes, every person has rights in this country, including illegal immigrants.
But what about the rights of people who are here by legal means?
What about their rights to live in peace?
What about the rights of the two police officers out west who were murdered by an illegal immigrant?
What about the rights of the many females who have been, are, and will be raped in the many southern border towns and cities, and soon in your areas by illegal immigrants?
What about your right to be free from higher taxes because of the economic drain caused by illegals?
Yes, you are supporting this mess!
And no, these illegal immigrants do not have the same rights as the people they victimize.
And yet, the ACLU is protecting the rights of these criminals, and it is everyone else who is paying for this illegal trespass.
Don't let this happen to your town.

In closing, I am sure that there will be a few people who will argue that our ancestors came here illegally.
That is another kind of issue, but one thing is certain about that:
Our ancestors came here to work and create a better life and country for themselves and others.

One thing I never hear anyone mention regarding the illegal Latino problem is that every day MILLIONS of dollars are being wired to Mexico and Central America by Latinos, mostly illegals,to their families back "home." Even The Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank have gotten into the act.
America gives more foreign aid than any other country in the world, as is, and we can't afford to have more money being drained from our economy.
It costs taxpayers even more to house the Latino lawbreakers. The majority of criminals in California jails and prisons are Latino; illegal or legal. The majority of graffitti is done by Latinos.
And English is the national language here. If they can't learn it, they shouldn't have jobs here. Many of them fake not understanding English, anyway, and it cost us money in the courts to hire interpreters.
American citizens are denied teaching jobs because they aren't bilingual. To hell with that. Put these Spanish speaking kids in English classes and don't teach them a damn thing else, until they can read and write English.

Border Security and Immigration Reform

The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan:

Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.

Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.

No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.

No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.

Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting period.

Ok, let me get this solution to illegal immigration. The genius minds in Washington is to give them legal status. Great, how about the crime problem in America. Washington solution, open up the jails, release everyone and decriminalize everything. Problem solved. It seems obvious that Washingtn doesn't hear it's citizens. I guess we are irrevalent to them. One party or the other, either choice is pretty bleak. It's getting hard to differentiate them. They know we have no alternative other than either party.I say we need to vote out everyone of them. I received your "message to Ted Kennedy" email from a family member, and while you have every right to hold (and to voice) the views expressed in the message, I take issue with its content, and would like to shed some perspective on the immigration issue.

First of all, the United States is a country of immigrants. Unless you are full-blooded Native American, there are immigrants somewhere in your family tree. Part of what makes America great is the diversity of its people.

Secondly, we must consider why so many people want so badly to immigrate to the United States that they are willing to do so illegally, leaving behind family, friends and the only life they've ever known, risking a dangerous border crossing, accepting low-wage jobs and sub-standard living conditions, just to have a chance at the "American Dream." Wouldn't our efforts be better spent on working with the governments of the countries they are leaving, to improve conditions there, than on building walls along our borders and rounding up immigrants to deport them? If we, as a country or as individual citizens, are in a position to make the world a better place for others, we are responsible to do so.

Third, the Pledge of Allegiance (which is recited by school children, sports fans, and Congressmen alike), describes a nation "with Liberty and Justice for all". If we refuse to help the immigrants among us, legal or otherwise, we break that pledge.

Finally, on the plinth of the Statue of Liberty, (that iconic symbol of the United States) there is a poem by Emma Lazurus entitled "the New Colssus" which reads:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

Just a note to let everyone know the NAHB is against the amnesty bill in congress. National Association of Home Builders have made a public statement on the HGTV Pro web site. They have said this amnesty is really bad for small business, which is the backbone of the industry. It will pull down wages for the American worker. We already are suffering because of so many illegals hired at lower wages and it is very hard to stay competitive.
 

I feel it is time for a national referendum on the matter of the illeagal aliens. How do we go about this? Maybe when the people stand up our vote will count for something. I am urging every person to contact their party representatives to get this movement started. I lived on the Mexican border all my life until the last two years. I was a 7th generation Texan and I am sad to say I'm glad I don't live in South Texas anymore. Illegal aliens broke into our ranch houses and stole everything, including guns, even killing some of our friends. I would be willing to accept this bill if the U.S. government, the Mexican government and the illegal immigrant organizations would come forth and sincerely APOLOGIZE for breaking our laws instead of the arrogance they have displayed until this point. I am so ashamed today to be an Arizonan. My senators will vote for this bill knowing that at least 75% of Arizona voters are against this bill. I have let them know what I think of this bill and that I will remember their votes the next time I vote for my senators and president.

Please encourage all citizens to fly their flags upside down in the distress position as a signal to congress of our loss of representation in the government and our stance against the passage of this bill. Maybe if enough citizens do so, it will get their attention.
 

Grassroots doesn't quite get it either. Immigration is an enormously important issue, but it is only a component of a bigger one: sovereignty. This issue wasn't listed in your survey.
