Voters Rebuff Bush, Reject Republican Congress
It is clear Republicans in Congress could not overcome two insurmountabler obstacles: President Bush and themselves.
The Exit polls showed that the leading issue was a referendum on the President and the war in Iraq. 57 percent of exit pollers disapproved of the job President Bush is doing and 56 percent disapprove of the war in Iraq. More specifically, 55 percent -- a strong majority -- want the U.S. to pull out some or all of our troops from Iraq. So was it Bush or Iraq?
More Bush Than Iraq?
Comparing exit polling data from 04 and 06, there is a much bigger change in Americans' views of Bush than Iraq. In '04 when asked "how things are going" in Iraq, 52% said somewhat/very badly and 44% said somewhat/very good. This year, 56% disapprove -- a move of just 4 percent. Compare that with the Bush approval numbers -- a drop from 53% in 04 to just 42% in 06.
In Virginia's Senate race -- a state Republicans had to win -- Republican George Allen won among those who rated as "important" or "very important" these issues: the war of terror, the economy, taxes, same-sex marriage and abortion. Tell a candidate he is going to win on these issues and he'll expect to win handily. But Allen lost decisively on the Bush factor and Iraq.
So, the first analysis is that this election was a referendum on President Bush/Iraq. I'm tradionalist mostly voting for conservative causes. Hopefully, Republicans can regroup and take back the congress. I'm also saddened by the loss of the senator from PA. And then again, it might be for the better. I certainly hope so(God Help Us). Or maybe, the people of this great nation will realize how liberal democrats or liberals in general want to change how this nation will look like. In my opinion, that will be a scary thought. Again, Please God Help Us!!!!!

The Republicans abandoned their CONSERVATIVE BASE...it's that simple. Conservatism wins every time it's tried...from tax-cuts to smaller government. Unfortunately, the government did NOT get smaller and the highly successful tax-cuts that helped bring us a lower Federal deficit, higher Federal revenues, a Dow over 12,000 and 4.4% unemployment (despite the trillion dollar economic hit we took in the aftermath of 9/11) just wasn't touted loudly enough by Republicans in leadership roles. We can't expect the mainscream media to do it. The Democrats swept into power without a single idea for which anyone could vote...their "new direction" has no direction to it at all except as a function of their "I hate Bush" mantra.
We have two years to sink them under the weight of their own vacuousness and re-establish a TRUE CONSERVATIVE leadership in this nation. Two years, or we're all in huge trouble!

I don't always agree with Steve but he is right on. The election was a referendum on the republican leadership's failure to address its moral failings and other significant ethical issues. Perhaps with several key republicans losings their seats, the Haggard scandal and the failure of the republican leadership, God is doing a house-cleaning of His own. If we say we believe, we'd better live consistent with our values.

I really don't think anything will get done unless, "it's done for Corporate America" and the other "wealthiest top 1%" of this country. The sympathetic, caring, sharing, donating and honest citizens of this Great Nation will never have representation in any Senate or House seat. I agree with what the person said about being an American. If you don't like this country and think that the grass is greener someplace else then please feel free to leave, you see there are no bars on the windows here and the doors aren't locked. Too bad that people just can't get along with each other and maybe things with wouldn't be the way things are. People should go back to reading the bible and see what God has to teach, and it sure as heck isn't fighting with each other.

All I can say, read the Bible and you will see everything is coming to pass. What disturbs me most of all every bible believing church including mine should have had their churches open with 24 hour prayer and fasting for this election. The Republicans were too busy catering to lobbyist's and special interests, just like Democrats. Republicans let us down, with scandals and corruption, the Democrats won't be much better. I guess the message sent is to stop the President at any cost, bring home the soldiers, and become the North American Union, with amnesty for all. I am worried for this nation and see a service driven economy owned by EXXON. The U.S. has already been given away by Bush, go to http://www.spp.gov and you will see that Bush signed an agreement with Canada and Mexico to make us all one big nation with Canada and Mexico with no borders! That is why no one will pass anything to stop illegal immigration. That is why illegals are not being made to leave here. The Mexican President wants to hurry up with the agreement before the baby boomers get their Social Security in 8 years. Read your Bible and you will see what is to come. I believe Jimmy Carter was one of the sorriest presidents we have ever had and him and his brother and Rosilin shouldmove to Cuba and live with Castro. He loves him so much. And for the GREAT USA let that (I can't think of his name right now) from Venezella (?) over here and insult out president the way he did. He should be in prison. And by the way Alex Balwin and Rosie O'Donnell should be shipp to RUssia. Alex promised if Bush wins the election he would moved to Russia. Notice he is stil here and people offered to buy him one way tickets and he refused. Can't help it but I can not help but wanting to send most of Hollywood to IRAQ and let them live there. I admit there are some good people in Hollywood but don't speak out. Well, I guess this all the comments I have say for ow. But the Republican parties did it to them selves.

I guess I've got to reread my Bible again because somehow I missed the part about Canada and Mexico and the North American Union. The world has been full of and evil despotic rulers since Genesis. Somehow God doesn't seem to get freaked out. So if we believe in him and trust him why should we? All who say they believe must walk the walk or hypocracy will be exposed. The Republicans weren't walking and not even really talking very well either.
I was stating a FACT about the North American Union, if you choose not to check it out, so be it. The point was in the end time our nation will no longer be a major player. I am trying to inform and not to "Freak out" anyone. The downfall and bankruptcy of this nation is coming, and people should trust God. you can't trust ANY politicians.

I am disappointed that people would fight against a goverment that is trying to save our nations people and all the unborn Children that are being killed everyday. To stand for gay marriage is to say it's ok to go against God's word that it is an abomination for men and women to marry their own sex. God loves the sinner but he hates the sin and it is written that no sin shall enter Heaven. People that won't stand for something they know in their heart is not right will fall for anything. It's time that people of all faiths that know what is right and what is wrong take a stand speak out and be willing to bear persecution for it surely will come. Jesus set the example that someone has to sacrifice their life that we can be free. He gave his life for a cause these precious soliders are giving their life everyday to see that their people can have life in a free country. It's time to stop complaining and start praying for those who are in authority that God will open their eyes and their hearts to do the right thing for our country and not our country only but the whole world. I have loveones who have died in a war, I've had a son who was murdered and watched my firstborn die at eight years old. I have known heartache but I know Peace true peace In God I vote for who is morally right.

Say all you want, the reason democrats are at the helm today is simply this 31 million democrats voted vs. 25 million Republicans. Simple math. When the economy is going good the Republicans stay home and drink their yerba mate.

I agree with the end-timers here, things must get much worse for America & the world before the Lord returns. The bible does make that clear. But I am not convinced at all, that we are at that point in time yet. Watch and see how things turn back around in 2008. This beating that Republicans took is very good for the country and especially good for true conservative & Christian voters. It will give us time to reflect and re-group. In 2008, we shall return to candidates with values and purpose.

I recently read an article by Andrew Strom on "REPENT of POLITICAL IDOLATRY. It would do all Christians and Politicans good to heed what the Spirit of God is saying to all of us.
Something I find a little distressing in America is that Christians are so often relying on POLITICS to accomplish SPIRITUAL results. Thus they ally themselves fervently with one particular party and treat it like "God has won" if that party wins - and "God has lost" if it doesn't. I almost see this as a kind of BLINDNESS.
The fact is - most of America's problems today are SPIRITUAL problems that can only be solved by a sweeping move of God's Spirit. yet we are relying on Politics and Politicians to accomplish many of these things?? How bizarre!
How bizarre that we strive and strive to get the "right (worldly) guy" elected. How bizarre that we treat teh President like some kind of mega-preacher or mega-minister. We put our "hope in him and his Political party for all kinds of SPIRITUAL things! What is wrong with us? I don't know of any other country where the Christians put such hope in worldly political parties for things that ONLY GOD CAN DO. Is this not a kind of IDOLATRY??
Yes - there are issues of righteousness to be concerned with - and it is good to vote. But what is with this OBSESSION with Politics amongst the Christians? Do we not realize it is a kind of "phony war"? Imagine if we spent all that time praying instead of STRIVING for Political victory. We might be actually having a Revival right now!
Can Politics make America truly righteous? NO! Only God can do that!
I want to issue a call to all true Christians right now: "REPENT of trusting in MAN instead of God." REPENT of trusting in Politics to do the things that only God can do. REPENT of striving and striving to get the "right party" in power - and thinking that will solve this country's SPIRITUAL problems. REPENT of making an IDOL out of any party or any PRESIDENT. The Presidency does NOT equal God's move! REPENT of putting so much energy and effort into things that WILL NOT SOLVE the PROBLEM!

Something I find a little distressing in America is that Christians are so often relying on POLITICS to accomplish SPIRITUAL results. Thus they ally themselves fervently with one particular party and treat it like "God has won" if that party wins - and "God has lost" if it doesn't. I almost see this as a kind of BLINDNESS.
The fact is - most of America's problems today are SPIRITUAL problems that can only be solved by a sweeping move of God's Spirit. yet we are relying on Politics and Politicians to accomplish many of these things?? How bizarre!
How bizarre that we strive and strive to get the "right (worldly) guy" elected. How bizarre that we treat teh President like some kind of mega-preacher or mega-minister. We put our "hope in him and his Political party for all kinds of SPIRITUAL things! What is wrong with us? I don't know of any other country where the Christians put such hope in worldly political parties for things that ONLY GOD CAN DO. Is this not a kind of IDOLATRY??
Yes - there are issues of righteousness to be concerned with - and it is good to vote. But what is with this OBSESSION with Politics amongst the Christians? Do we not realize it is a kind of "phony war"? Imagine if we spent all that time praying instead of STRIVING for Political victory. We might be actually having a Revival right now!
Can Politics make America truly righteous? NO! Only God can do that!
I want to issue a call to all true Christians right now: "REPENT of trusting in MAN instead of God." REPENT of trusting in Politics to do the things that only God can do. REPENT of striving and striving to get the "right party" in power - and thinking that will solve this country's SPIRITUAL problems. REPENT of making an IDOL out of any party or any PRESIDENT. The Presidency does NOT equal God's move! REPENT of putting so much energy and effort into things that WILL NOT SOLVE the PROBLEM!

Thank you to the "9/11" family! You spoke with more moral (and political clarity) than all of the others put together. I too, was very much the political activist, but after the 2004 election I came to the conclusion that as a Christian my efforts were misplaced. It is much more important that we pray and preach. We need to put a moratorium on Bible Studies and get out of our comfort zones to rech the lost with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Then and only then can there be real change in America.

People shouldn't play the "blame Bush" game for Katrina and the war. The Democratic leaders were voting for the war before it started, Kerry, Clinton and others. Then we got in too deep to get out gracefully without harm to our Country. We will all be in harm's way once the soldiers pull out of Iraq.
Then, the mayor & governor of the Katrina disaster must share the blame if there is blame, not Bush. Algo, the people wouldn't leave their homes for fear of looting when they were warned ...their fault.
I can't help but feel that there are more anti-God leaders on the Democratic side. Everyone I ever knew on the Republican side stepped down after being exposed for whatever their "sin" might have been. Did Clinton or Ted Kennedy and others step down after being exposed for their discrepancies? NO!!
Then in PA, Rick Santorum, (Rep.) who is pro-life & anti-gay was voted down in favor of a man named Casey, (Dem.) who is pro-abortion & pro-gay. Explain that to me, Democrats. PA is in terrible condition & the town I'm from has the largest rate of welfare recipients of any other town. The Dems have been in charge for 60 years, at least.
Knowing what Nancy Pelosi stands for, how can anyone say that things will improve?
I agree that God is our answer and He will punish the offenders, whether political or otherwise. The religious Republicans gave up on man being the answer. Go to it Democrats and solve all the problems since you think you are the answer. I vote for Christ.

As divided as this country is..what makes us any different than the Sunnis and the Shiites ? We have a daily count in the newspapers of the war dead..but how many murders and rapes occur DAILY in this country?..not to mention the unborn children who are murdered daily in abortion clinics...With three grandchildren and one on the way I weep for their future. The media made millions on this election and their constant "opinions" were imbedded in the brains of the idiots who listened to them..

I agree with much of Steve's analysis. However, I am a values voter. I do not have a strong opinion on the war (though I have a son in boot camp who may go), but I do regard conservative social values as critical. In Michigan, Republicans betrayed their anti-affirmative action supporters by coming out against prop.2. Well, it won by the same percentage that the Republicans lost! We Republicans need to identify people who share our values, and this includes most American Moslems and Hispanics, who favor traditional morality, family values, respect for religion and hard work, etc. The immigration frenzy caused us to lose many of our values constituancy.
Why cant we be ..JUST AMERICANS? I am so tired of people putting their nationality onto the word American! I am Lithuanian..do I go around with a Lithuanian American crowd? NO..just stop..everybody has to have an interest group for their religion, their heritage, etc..no wonder Our Lord wept.

Winning the war against terror was a longshot from the beginning, but we had a chance and we had a President with the guts and the decency to get it done.
It's the last chance we will have. It's also the last chance we will have to establish a democratic government in the Middle East and stabilize that region. Now the terrorists have no doubt that Americans don't have the guts to fight tough wars-all they have to do is hunker down and hang on until we give in. They also now they can count on our media for support. For the rest of human history, we will be their targets. It's laughable to look back on the short-lived American patriotism and bravado that followed 9/11. The terrorists called our bluff and now they have won the war. The Democrat sirens have lured our ship to their rocks.
They are telling us that now it's over, but it's only just beginning.
From Day#1, they used the war for their own political gain and American lives never mattered to them. Now those traitors are in control. Remember when it was frightening just to watch a plane fly through the sky?

I am a Christian with conservative values on abortion and gay marriage, and with liberal values on protecting the environment and bettering the lot of the poor. I think that all of these values are consistent with scripture.
One of the things that I find troubling is the stridency, even the hatred of those on the "other" side. The emotion expressed in so many of the posts above is so similar to that expressed on the environmental blogs after the 2004 election. One wonders how our nation, which I believe is a special nation in God's eyes, will ever reach solutions to its problems on which agreement should be possible when the anger on certain issues blinds so many to the need for honest effort to address these problems. Demonizing people who are office holders or who vote for the other party will not solve anything.
The comment about Americans having become too materialistic is a very wise and important one. That is certainly not the example that the Lord showed us. He urged us to live lives of caring and concern for the poor. I don't understand what cutting taxes primarily for the rich has to do with Christian values.
And by the way, Democratic Senator-Elect Bob Casey of Pennsylvania is ANTI-abortion, not pro-abortion as one poster above said.

I voted republican, but I am fed up that our republican leaders are giving in too much. Many of my republican friends voted democrat because they said there was no difference. We can't kick out 12 million illegal immigrants. We feed them, cloth them and they close our hospitals, spend our tax dollars. What part of illegal don't you understand? I believe Iraq is important enough for our troops to be there, but I do think that we should be doing more to speed things up. The insurgents are not going by the Geneva Convention, and yet our heroes are being attacked because of some minor indiscretions. (i.e., they don't wear uniforms, they use children to carry bombs) but the news media covers the Muslim side of everything. Homosexual marriage. Don't they realize that homosexuals would be killed if the Muslims took over. And so would the Christians. (Of course I know they don't mind the Christians being killed) I think they should be getting metals just for being willing to go. I do appreciate that the Republicans are helping us stay safer. We were bombed twice when Clinton was in office and we did very little. At least Bush is willing to roll up his sleves and get the job done, even if it is unpopular. Do I agree with all he does, no, but I do agree with giving us a safer America.

If the Republicans had actually fought for and campaigned on the FairTax proposal as supported by Grassfire, and researched and promoted by www.FairTax.org, they would have won.

It's time for the Pence/Shadegg (both big FairTax supporters) to get paleoconservative, rather than neoconservative, values back on the table with the GOP. Making sure AMNESTY does not occur, getting the fence appropriated and BUILT, and getting the FairTax PASSED with the help of the supporters in the Democratic Party is going to be the way to turn our country around back towards the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness.

A Little Comic Relief
THIS IS A NONPARTISAN JOKE THAT CAN BE ENJOYED BY BOTH PARTIES! NOT ONLY
THAT, IT IS POLITICALLY CORRECT!!
While walking across a busy Washington street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a
truck and dies.
The senator's soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there
is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see,
so we're not sure what to do with you."
"No problem, just let me in," says the senator.
"Well, I'd like to, but, I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is
have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose
where to spend eternity."
"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator.
"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."
And with that, St. Peter escorts the senator to the elevator and it goes down,
down, down to hell. The doors open and the senator ends up in the middle of a
green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of
it are a bunch of friends and other politicians who had worked with the senator.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run up and greet the senator, shaking
hands, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich
at the expense of the people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and
champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a
good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that
before the senator realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St.
Peter is waiting for the senator.

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented secret service agents souls
bouncing from cloud to cloud, then playing alittle jazz on their harps and singing. They have a good

The senator reflects for a minute, then answers: "Well, I would never
have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I
would be better off in hell."

covered with waste and garbage.

While i am not completely shocked that the likes of Bush and McCain supporting this sellout Immigration bill, what surprises is people like Senator John Kyl of Arizona lining up to support his bill. But then i watch this guy on the Hanitty show where he mentions he was just re-elected in 2006. A-ha now theres my answer. This dude thinks he has 5 years of political insulation and people will forget this sellout by the time he comes up for re-election
However, I sincerely hope that now once and for all the American people wake up this wholesale sellout of them.
