Are you a "Legal Business"?
On a recent Grassfire strategy briefing, we discussed a concept Grassfire is now developing — a “seal of approval” for businesses who affirm that they only hire legal residents. Those businesses would be known as a “Legal Business” and could use this designation in their promotions and advertising. Here is some of the feedback we have received.
--Steve Elliott, Grassfire
The Idea of American business stamp of approval is a great Idea. People would be surprised at how many companies hire illegals and it would take a strong constant stand on all our part to keep momentum.
--Stephen Zehner
I do the same as one of your callers, if I can't get my business done because of a language problem, I leave and call and tell them why.
Keep up the good work...... you have your hands full.
Randie Kleman
I just finished listening to your recorded conference call. I agree with the idea of not patronizing businesses that hire illegal aliens. Only problem is down here in Dallas that may not leave many restaurants, etc that we will want to use.
--Barbara (Elliott) Leon
I have gotten some great ideas(from the strategy briefing) to fight the rising tide of illegals, mainly not to patronize businesses where they are employed.I have a housecleaning business and (illegals) are 80% of the people who answer my ads for employment.I won't hire them.Unfortunately my competitors do and as a result can charge less than me .A lot less. And nobody cares. They will eventually ruin my business if this goes on.
--Fallon Gardiner
Love your idea about stickers for 'legal buisnesses' and I think you are on
to something there. If there is any way I can help in the future in my area
please contact me.
--JOhn Sauer
I listened in on the recorded conference call and I have to say I was very impressed by your idea about
businesses placing the " legal business" sticker on their windows. I am also, from this point on, going to inquire of businesses as to their hiring practicesof illegals. We can no longer wait for our government to do their job. We as American
citizens are bound by our duty to our country to keep its borders and its way of life

Spreading "Chicken Little" Gospel
Lennie and Art,
I know you mean well sending me this stuff, but the Grassroots stuff is
not accurate. You really should look into what those idiots are sending
you. Their claims are way out of line. If you would sit and read exactly
what they write and do the math, you will find that 300 reams of paper would
be needed for 150,000 petitions if they were a single page. and "tens of
thousands" of emails would crash AOL.
Grassroots is spreading a "Chicken Little" gospel and good people like you
are falling for it.
When you get these "sign our email petitions" , you should delete them and
go bake cookies. If you sign one of those petitions, tell me how some
politician in Washington would be able to verify the names. For a petition
to be legitimate, it must be verifiable. "numberonepops@aol.com is not
verifiable. neither is rhauserblahblahblah. I have several email names I
use for different businesses I deal with on the internet. I could literally
sign that petition 13 times and use a different name and IPS Number each
time. What does that do to your petition?
Do yourself and me a favor, hit the "Delete" key a little more often and
"unsubscribe" from Grassroots.org.
See you on Saturday.

Dear Lennie and Art,
I received this email today, and had to respond. With all due respect to
your friend, he is flat wrong. Please allow me to explain.
Grassfire has a dedicated staff of writers and researchers who spend hours
seaching for the answers that are so often hidden from plain view.
Additionally, we carefully check our claims to verify their accuracy.
As with the Broadcast Decency bill, we were told by Sen. Sam Brownback
(R-KS) himself at a Senate Values Action Committee meeting that Sen. Stevens
was holding up the Decency bill. He urged us to call in the grassroots
troops to shake it free--using phones, faxes, and yes, petitions. Your
friend is completely off the mark. I know, because I am the one who
coordinates the printing of and delivery of millions of petitions each year.
While these are symbolic petitions (meaning they do not have an actual
signature on them), they have proven time and time again to make an impact
with those we present them to. In a recent presentation, a Senate staffer
was flabbergasted to see so many binders packed with double-sided pages of
names. "How can we contact these poeple?" came the question. I opened the
front flap of the binder and handed the staffer a disk that included the
names, addresses of every person who had signed our petition and who lived
in that Senator's state. "This is incredible!" was his stunned reply.
During our meeting which followed the presentation, he repeatedly asked us
how we were able to rally so many folks so quickly.
In short, petitions do work. They make a powerful impact--especially when we
walk in with hundreds of thousands of petitions. Don't be fooled by your
well-intentioned friend. Most folks--like that Senate staffer don't fully
understand what Grassfire is all about and what we are truly capable of
until they see it and touch it.
Finally, your friend mentioned that he could sign our petition 13 times
using a different ISP. I suppose if a person was that clever he/she could
trick our system. But gven the time he/she would waste signing our petition
13 times, he/she could have contacted their Senator and sounded off on an
issue. Some folks, like yourself want to take action, and Grassfire is
constantly working to provide you with creative ways to do so. Others, and I
suspect your friend is one, would prefer to stand on the sidelines and give
every reason why an effort won't work. I can assure you that your voice,
your petition, and your presence with Grassfire does make a startling
impact!

Thank you Mr. DeJong. I appreciate your help in this and you said it beautifully!!
I've sent your response on to that "friend" and am praying for him to see the light and get back on the right team.
Thanks for all you are doing in Washington to take back the government to a point, at least making them be accountable.

10 Salient Points On Immigration
Well thought out points on the illegal immigration crisis from Grassfire team memver, Ralph Warlow from Texas.
--Steve Elliott
I believe there are there are several issues that are not generally being discussed. These issues are particularly pertinent for we citizens of Texas.
1. The tremendous number of crimes being committed by illegal immigrants.
2. Most of these people are in the underground economy, so no taxes are being paid.
3. Here in Texas we have lofty real estate taxes because illegals get free medical, free education for their children, free housing, etc.
4. The billions of Dollars being sent to Mexico by illegals is seriously damaging our balance of trade. As an aside, did you know this money flow is now Mexico's largest source of income exceeding even petroleum?
5. Many areas of this country are facing shortages of water, gasoline and electricity, every person who comes here increases the burden on already stretched resources. Why are we allowing illegals to deplete our valuable resources, raise costs to us, and increase our dependence on foreign resources?
6. The minute an illegal gets a "green card" they are eligible for affirmative action. Why should legal U.S. citizens wait behind these people for jobs?
7. Millions of legal U.S. citizens cannot afford health insurance yet we give illegals free health care.
8. Any amnesty makes a total mockery of our system of laws and makes fools of the many immigrants who came here legally.
9. If an amnesty is passed, how long will it be before another one is necessary?
10. If an amnesty is passed, the congress will pass a "tough" border control law, as a sop to we citizens, which will never be enforced the same way the current laws are not.
As a personal note I do not believe most of these illegals want to be U.S. citizens, their first loyalty is to Mexico, they simply want our wealth. We even have a University of Texas at Austin Hispanic teacher who is calling for all "anglos" to be killed and Texas be given to Mexico!
Regards, Ralph C. Warlow

My heart is torn
Ron from Grassfire,
I just can't understand how it is becoming increasingly more difficult to make our government understand that the MAJORITY of this country does not want to be exposed to the increasing amount of profanity (and sexual/violent contact) that is being aired on our networks. My children still believe the "S" word is for "stupid" and "shut up" and this is exactly how I want it to be. There is absolutely no need to use foul language - especially during prime time television. What more do they want us to endure?
I've used this comparison with others and it has hit home. If I had dinner at a restaurant of my choice and the food was burned to a crisp and totally against my liking, I would refuse payment because it was not as I had requested it. I would love it if Americans would do the same with television - just not pay the bill because networks and marketing firms refuse to listen to our requests. The absolute only reason we still have cable in our home is for my husband's business - he watches CNBC and for our family time watching the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, some sports and TMC. The rest is basically "too much" when the children are awake and running around. And, gone are the days when you could laugh or sing with the commercials - Oscar Meyer's theme song is a perfect example. Just the other day I watched a commercial where the "S" word is started and the mere implication of the word is enough to have you consciously complete it. For example "What the ???" or "Holy Sh" - of course networks realize what they're doing here, otherwise why bother? Right? If they were concerned with our needs - like any quality restaurant would be - they would make amends for their mistakes and try to correct them and would possibly even comp the bill.
My heart is torn and I am extremely saddened because I am trying desperately trying to raise my twin 7 1/2 year olds in a loving, nurturing and morally correct household. We even made a decision to purchase The Little House on the Prairie to eliminate the horrible commercials with their immoral content.
It is hard for me to believe there are sooo many of our "leaders" condoning this type of behavior. It's like gang violence. How do you have so many people willing to participate in a crime? Are there seriously that many individuals who lack a moral conscience? Please Ron, when you talk to those in power, tell them they must stop shoving obscene language, sex and violence down our throats. We are using our voices to tell them we DO NOT WANT TO SEE OR HEAR this type of garbage. WE HAVE A VOICE, WE'RE USING IT and THEY ARE CHOOSING NOT TO LISTEN!
Thank you for everything you do to fight for the citizens of our country.
Your efforts are in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Dawn Jean
Dawn,
I have been getting flooded with emails that I will take DIRECTLY TO SEN. STEVENS OFFICE AND THE COMMERCE COMMITTEE THAT HE CHAIRS.
I cannot respond to many of these emails, but I thought yours was particularly noteworthy. I don't have twins, but I have three small children (10,7,4). we watch their exposure to tv closely, and often watch together. When I was young I grew up on the Brady Bunch, Little House, and The Waltons. People can say what they want, but those shows had a lasting positive impact on me. I applaud you for purchasing the Little House series, and I have great faith that your twins will grow up with much the same positive experiences I had from watching tv. Thanks for writing, and being a part of our team.

Ron,
THANK YOU so very much for your response. It brought a tear to my eye. I am helping to fight this battle and it is a constant weight upon my shoulders and again, my heart. I love my children so very much and want them to grow up to be confident, loving and morally sound. Your words gave me renewed strength at a perfect time. I had so hoped to hear from you.
Keep up the wonderful work you are doing and know that I am one of the soldiers trying to make this a better world in which we live. I have but one voice and will continue to use it for all!
God's blessings!

Grassroots Igniting Over Immigration
Here are a few emails from team members who are quite unhappy about the illegal invasion taking place. I think the grassroots are coming alive.
Steve Elliott, Grassfire
Dear Steve,
Everybody I know wants to rally against illegal immigration and amnesty...the important issue being the security of our borders. We are very concened that the Senate will pass an outrageous bill favoring the illegals. We are angry because we just paid incredible tax bills.
We don't want the US to become a third world country. Finally, we don't like being called GRINGOS!
Let's organize a nationwide rally...SOON.
--Jayne, FL
I do not want the United States to be a Spanish speaking country. I am deeply affronted by illegal citizens demonstrating in our streets as if they have the right to do so. I am tired of paying taxes for illegal immigrants in an already beleaguered health system. I am for legal immigration with quotas. We have an estimated 35 million legal immigrants of many, many different backgrounds, let’s concentrate our efforts on assimilating them and not illegal immigrants. I could go on for pages I feel so strongly about this. Let’s take back our country and not provide amnesty for illegal immigrants!
Thank you, Steve, for all you do to stand up for America! I appreciate all the issues you bring to my attention, the emails and faxes you provide for me to send to my senators and congressmen. You are doing an outstanding job, and you truly are my hero!
Mrs. Kitty Marlene Alvey
Dear Steve, I realize that these people need Jesus in their lives and
they seek a better way of life for themselves and family, but the U.S.A
has people that have been here since birth seeking the same and so with
all these immigrants over here our own people are suffering because of
job losses and health care costs on the rise we can not set idly and
watch our nation be turned into a third world country. Why can't
President Bush command that the border be shut down?
Mark Massey
Steve Elliott, Grassfire
Dear Steve,
I came to this country 50 years ago . I think all the illegal
Aliens should come in the correct way. I had to have a sponsor , plus this sponsor had to have enough insurance lined up for me in case I would get sick, a job and a place to live. this all took one year. But before I came over here I was interviewed by the consulate, when I finally made over here then I was told if you know what is good for you will learn the English . I didn't even think twice about it. And now it seems that no one has to learn the languages. What about when all these people become citizen what is process now.?? Do have to speak , read and write in English and learn about the constitution and American history?????I had to.
Thank you
Christine

Illegal Immigration "Unforgivable"
Received this email from a Grassfire team member. I think William succinctly stated what many of us are thinking on the immigration issue.
Steve Elliott, Grassfire
I would like to stress the fact that the immigration laws on the books at this time need to be enforced. Article II of the Constitution demands that the law be enforced by the government and I am for the Constitution. I do not want to stop immigration but legal immigration only should be accepted. We are a nation of laws and if the law is not used to protect our borders we are doomed as a nation and will be in 20 years as Mexico is today.
My wife is a legal immigrant of 8 years and a citizen one year. It is not easy becoming a US citizen but to break the law or go around the law should not be accepted by our government. The changing of the law to make it easier for some and not take in to consideration of the majority is unforgivable.
That is what I believe and what I want the government to understand. Maybe with Grassfire organization this can be conveyed so that congress and the President will do the job given them by the people when they were elected.

William Mier

My Trip to Mexico
Received this from a Grassfire team member -- his letter to
President Bush in advance of an upcoming trip to Mexico.
--Steve Elliott, Grassfire
Dear President Bush:
I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family,
and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across
the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few
arrangements. I know you can help with this.
I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports,
immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the
same way you do here.
So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that
I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting
the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might
need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the
flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and
lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy
access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any
effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the
memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all
police officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals
on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not
want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes,
and don't enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice
and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might
place on the economy.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these
things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am
sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him
nicely.
However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail
hunting with your V.P.
Thank you so much for your kind help.
Sincerely,
Phil Shapiro

Try This In Mexico
Received this from a Grassfire team member. Very strong points.
--Steve Elliott, Grassfire
If you are ready for the adventure of a lifetime, TRY THIS:
Good luck! But don't hold your breath, because none of the above will never happen. It will not happen in Mexico or any other country in the world except right here in the United States, land of the naive and politically correct politicians.
Enter Mexico illegally. Never mind immigration quotas, visas, international law, or any of that nonsense.
Once there, demand that the local government provide free medical care for you and your entire family.
Demand bilingual nurses and doctors.
Demand free bilingual local government forms, bulletins, etc.
Procreate abundantly, expecting free medical and hospitalization and citizenship for all children born there.
Deflect any criticism of this allegedly irresponsible reproductive behavior with, "It is a cultural USA thing. You would not understand, pal."
Keep your American identity strong. Fly Old Glory from your rooftop, or proudly display it in your front window or on your car bumper.
